Dog Drags Owner To His Cell Phone While He's Suffering A Stroke And Saves His Life

It's difficult for us to determine how our pets would react if they ever happened to witness us during a moment of distress. We'd like to think they would be concerned, and in a perfect world, they would do whatever they could to help us, even if just by alerting to someone else that help is needed.

But ultimately, we'll never know for sure how they'll react until we're actually in that kind of situation. That's when you really find out if your pet has their paw on the pulse, so to speak, and are ready to leap into action need-be.

For one New Jersey man, he now knows for sure his beloved rescue dog, Sadie, will go above and beyond to help him when he needs her to.

As Newsweek reported, the man named Brian recently suffered a stroke while he was home alone with the 6-year-old German Shepherd.

But rather than simply watch curiously as her owner collapsed to the ground, Sadie took action, and has since been credited with saving her human's life.

Sadie hasn't always been Brian's loyal pup.

In fact, just last year the sweet girl was surrendered to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge when her owner moved away, leaving the pup all alone and feeling quite unwanted. But that's when Brian came along.

"Though her bio noted that she was especially nervous with men, Brian felt a special bond with Sadie, as he valued her intelligence, hesitancy to trust and fierce loyalty once she did form that trust," a Facebook post from the shelter explains. "Brian gave Sadie a second chance at life, adopting Sadie and welcoming her home."

Fast-forward to the end of January 2021, and Sadie and Brian have been living happily together for several months.

One day, while the pair were home alone together, Brian suffered a stroke and collapsed onto the ground. The situation could have easily become fatal if it weren't for Sadie's quick-thinking.

As the shelter explained online, the dog "never left [Brian's] side", and kept licking his face, which kept the man conscious.

But perhaps most incredibly is what Sadie did to help her owner get the help he so desperately needed in that moment.

The dog actually helped drag Brian across the floor of his home to where his cell phone was so he could get medical attention.

"Sadie was the only reason that Brian was able to call for help," the shelter said.

In the aftermath of the terrifying situation, the shelter is happy to report that Sadie is staying with family while Brian recovers at a rehabilitation center.

Although they may not be together right now, the tight pair still make sure they stay connected and FaceTime every single night to catch each other up on their respective days.

First, it was Brian who gave Sadie a second chance at having the kind of happy life she so deserved. "This time," the shelter noted on Facebook, "Sadie gave Brian a second chance at life."
