Kate Hudson Talks Co-Parenting With Three Different Dads: 'I've Got Kids All Over The Place'

Co-parenting isn't always easy — just ask Kate Hudson.

The Fool's Gold actress has not one, not two, but three baby daddies with her three children: Ryder Russell, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, and Rani Rose.

She recently opened up to the Sunday Today about the struggles that come with this, including her relationship with her own absent father.

Parenting is not easy.

Co-parenting can be even harder.

Add three different fathers to the mix and I can only imagine how that probably takes on a life of its own. But Kate Hudson has that DOWN.

In addition to being an actress, author, and entrepreneur, one of Kate Hudson's greatest achievements is being a mom.

After all, it's something she always wanted to do, as she once told Blackfilm that it was her lifelong dream.

She had her first child in 2004 with ex-husband, Chris Robinson.

But even then, Hudson had her own view about parenting.

"You don’t let being a mom stop you from having fun,” the actress said. “My parents left us to have fun all the time. We’d be like, 'Where are you going?'"

Kate was married to the Black Crowes’ singer for almost 10 years.

Since she had Ryder at just 24, she found that she wasn't quite prepared for the job.

“In terms of a Hollywood actress, I was like a teen mom," Hudson once said on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Currently, Kate shares joint custody over Ryder with Chris.

She has the same situation with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, whom she dated after her divorce.

While the pair didn't last, they welcomed a son, Bingham Hawn, in 2011.

Kate is currently dating the father of her third child: Danny Fujikawa.

The pair even knew each other for fifteen years before they started dating. "He's my best friend's stepbrother," she said on The Talk.

This made it easier for them to skip past some "hiccups" in a relationship.

Together, they welcomed Rani Rose in 2017.

With three kids and three different dads, one has to wonder how Kate manages it all.

Well, she recently opened up about the subject during an interview Sunday Today, saying "I've got kids all over the place."

She began by saying that parenting and co-parenting to the best of her ability is her highest priority.

"The only expectations I really have that are really high in my life is with my kids," she said.

"And with like family stuff. Other than that, it's like, I just let it go."

"I work my [expletive] off and then I walk away and I hope for the best," she continued.

At the root of her desire to co-parent right is the fact that she didn't have a relationship with her dad, Bill Hudson, growing up.

He once even slammed his kids to the Daily Mail.

Thankfully, Kate had a male figure in her life: her mother, Goldie Hawn's, longtime partner, Kurt Russell.

"I think that estrangement is unfortunately quite common," Kate told Sunday Today.

“I think it's important for people to talk about that. If they can't reconnect or if it's too challenging, that it's OK, right?”

Despite challenges with her father, she still has love for him.

"It's always been there, no matter what those complications have been.”

Getting to this healthy place has helped strengthen Kate as a mother. But that's not to say that she doesn't have her moments.

“I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life,” she said.

But she also acknowledged that this doesn't “take away from the fact that we [her and her brother] didn't know our dad.”

She went on to say that she's not opposed to hiding from her kids in the bathroom sometimes.

What mother doesn't? Add a pandemic on top of this and it's a recipe for needing a hot bath, stat.

She said:

"When you have so many kids, sometimes you have those moments where you're hiding in your bathroom going, 'Please, please, get me out of here!'"

I bet that is a mood for parents all over the world.

Now we want to hear from you!

Are you co-parenting with someone? If so, let us know if you handle it as well as Hudson! We would love to hear from you!
