Fans Only Just Realized That Matthew Perry's Dad Was In 'Friends'

It's been 16 years since the final episode of Friends aired and yet, the surprises keep on coming!

We've learned that Lisa Kudrow's car got searched every night to ensure that she didn't steal props and that Matt LeBlac had a crush on Jennifer Aniston.

We've also now learned that Matthew Perry's dad was on an episode of the show! Say what?!

*Friends* is definitely one of the most iconic shows and most popular sitcoms of all time.

NBC

It is one of the few shows that was beloved for not only the main characters but for all of the secondary characters that they brought onto the show.

That doesn't happen too often.

*Friends* had a lot of celeb cameos throughout its historic 10-year run.

Viewers saw everyone from Bruce Willis to George Clooney to Reese Witherspoon to Christina Applegate.

Each brought so much to the table, like when Brad Pitt appeared on the show when he was still married to Jennifer Aniston (Rachel).

This made his episode one of the most memorable. The live audience went *nuts* when he showed up at Monica's door!

NBC

It was especially hilarious that the writers made Brad's character someone who despised Rachel.

Another fan-favorite celeb cameo was Jennifer Coolidge (of Legally Blonde fame).

She played Amanda Buffamonteezi, the annoying former friend of both Monica and Phoebe.

NBC

She appeared on the Season 10 episode called "The One With Ross's Tan" and made fans laugh with her fake British accent and hilarious sayings such as, "I feel like a perfect arse."

This even led Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) to bust out laughing while filming!

But as much as we loved Jennifer's time guest-starring on the show, the same couldn't be said from her.

NBC

In a 2019 interview with Metro, she surprisingly threw some shade to the show by saying that the creators didn't exactly want to hear her ideas for the character.

"Sometimes I think people want to hear my ad libs when I get on a show and they really don’t," she said.

She also said that the vibe of the show was "pretty serious."

"I don’t think they wanted my input and I could really feel that…sticking to their own stuff. So I didn’t have the guts [to push]."

Thankfully, cameos for celebs like Danny DeVito went a lot better. He's even considered one of the most memorable celeb cameos on *Friends.*

NBC

How could he not be?!

He played Roy in the Season 10 episode, "The One Where the Stripper Cries."

Since Rachel and Monica hired a stripper so late, it ended up being Danny, aka Officer Goodbody, which is hilarious in itself.

Then, there was Bruce Willis who actually went on the show after losing a bet to Matthew Perry.

NBC

The story goes that Bruce lost the wager that the movie they worked on together would bomb at the box office.

In the end, he even donated his earnings from the show to charity.

But we are here to talk about Matthew Perry and his father!

NBC

It is time for us to reveal who his father played on the show, and we will warn you, once we do, you will be so annoyed that you didn't see the resemblance yourself.

It's difficult to fathom that his dad was on an episode and no one knew it.

NBC

John Bennett Perry appears in season 4 episode 18, "The One with Rachel's New Dress."

We are seriously SHOCKED over this. It makes us wonder what other cameos we missed.

John appeared in the episode where Rachel's plans to sleep with her boyfriend, Joshua, go awry when his parents come home early.

This leads them to find a lingerie-wearing Rachel on their couch. Talk about awkward!

The man who plays Joshua's dad (and who is enamored of Rachel) is actually Matthew's dad!

Obviously, tons of people had no idea that John Bennett Perry appeared on the show.

And to think, literally all we had to do was look at the end credits of the show (or Google the cast) to find out.

He had his own acting career before this cameo.

The now 80-year-old actor had roles in Veronica Mars, Independence Day, and George of the Jungle.

Since this is brand-new information for a lot of Friends fans, it's safe to assume that people are stunned.

This isn't the only *Friends* surprise Matthew has given us lately.

He recently revealed the airdate for the highly-anticipated Friends reunion.

After it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, he told fans on Twitter that they can expect the special to release sometime at the beginning of March.

Could we BE more excited?!

So, now we want to hear from you!

And we want to know the TRUTH!
