20 Weird Objects That Stumped A Lot Of People

The world is full of some super weird objects. Perhaps you've found a few in your time.

Thanks to the internet and its crowd-sourcing ways, though, you never have to wonder what something is anymore. Just ask the internet, and the internet will tell you.

"This is about the size of my hand, made of/with some kind of metal."

Reddit | ItsaMeRobert

Here's an interesting one. Even though there was some debate that it might be a reproduction, it's possible that this is a copper Incan axe head from pre-Columbian times.

"Someone was gifted this for a new baby with no note on what it is."

Reddit | padmoosen

This actually looks like a handy device. You wrap it around the latch on a door so it won't latch while the soft rubber silences the door.

"A bunch of three-armed poles, near the bike stands. The arms rotate."

Reddit | devilsrfun

If you're looking for a practical purpose here, stop. This is an interactive art installation based around the concept of turnstiles.

"Metallic ring with central slider and numbers engraved."

Reddit | UX_KRS_25

This weird ring can actually tell the time. It's a form of sundial: set the current month, then tie the ring from a string and point it at the sun.

"Bullet-type thing found in back seat of car after finding hole in window."

Reddit | vipshortbus34

If this looks like a bullet, well, that's because it totally is. It probably landed in the car after someone shot a gun in the air.

"Does anyone know what this box is?"

Reddit | rizona_

This is known as a sumi-e ink set. The dish on the right is for mixing ink, while the blocks on the left can be ground down into usable ink.

"I found these in my grandmother's house (Germany), they are made of thin glass."

Reddit | Winterzeit20

Some people might recognize these as tubes for flower decoration. Each one is used to sheath one flower, while a custom stand can keep them in place.

"It's made of really heavy hardwood. Unsure of the age."

I was thinking this was some kind of proto-surfboard, but it's actually half of a simple chair known as a Viking chair. Another piece of wood normally slots into the gap at the bottom.

"Found in my new home, built in the 1950s."

Reddit | hoodstarrr

Back in the days before Google and Amazon controlled all things home automation, switches like this were used. It's likely for a security system.

"Found this in old dumped housewares. It’s a piece of solid glass, so it can’t hold anything inside."

Reddit | miniaturedwarf

Here's one that's utterly useless now that it's broken. At one time, this was a fancy glass toilet paper holder. It lost its other end and now it's a hunk of glass.

"What is this netted enclosure with lots of cameras?"

Reddit | captainxam1

Here's something that's very much a part of the modern world. Known as a drone cage, it's designed to keep drones in a designated area without flying around.

"What is this weird large barrel looking thing hanging on a wire at local park?"

Reddit | Gags30

Here's a fun one. This barrel can be moved back and forth with fire hoses, meaning it's literally designed for fire hose accuracy contests.

"Found by my grandfather on a New Jersey beach after World War II."

Reddit | thenickdyer

This is a wooden flask, designed to contain powder for a musket. That means this thing could be a lot older than the World War II era.

"Purple packets found on rural property in Victoria, Australia."

Reddit | Bbqsaucebottle

These look like some kind of purple illicit substance, but they're actually dye packs. Known as raddles, they're tied under sheep so farmers can tell which animals have been inseminated.

"What is this electrical component?"

Reddit | 427impala

This thing is a type of relay known as a vacuum contactor. The electrical contacts inside help reduce dangerous electric arcs when switching high currents.

"They installed this thing on the ceiling of my apartment building."

Reddit | kendomama

This isn't a camera, which is good. It's for repelling insects, rodents and other pests, which...means this apartment has had pest problems in the past.

"Tunnel in basement of Pennsylvania rowhouse."

Reddit | Bll9tu

This tunnel isn't long — just a couple of feet at most. It was likely used for coal delivery and storage.

"Found on counter in medical exam room: string of plastic numbered oval beads."

Reddit | harpejjist

These bead things are actually for sizing something specific. Give up yet? Testicles. This is known as an orchidometer, and it's for sizing testicles.

"Some beach sand in Ecuador is magnetic."

If you've ever seen iron filings, this behaves basically the same way. That's because this sand is rich in iron, which means you can have a lot of fun with it if you have a magnet.

"What is this brown bumpy thing on my Pringle?"

Reddit | Shrekbdsm

Since Pringles are formed from a potato "dough," they sometimes get stuck together in the mold.

The brown bumps are simply part of another Pringle that got mashed onto this one.
