Mayim Bialik Is Reuniting With Her 'Big Bang Theory' Co-Star Jim Parsons For A New TV Show

Mayim Bialik is ringing in 2021 with a pretty big bang, but it's a little bit different than the one she's best known for!

Starring for 10 seasons on The Big Bang Theory made Mayim a household name again after her childhood breakout role as the titular character on Blossom, and now Mayim is returning to our screens on Call Me Kat, which premiered on Fox on January 3rd.

Diply had the pleasure of sitting down with Mayim to talk about this new chapter in her life and what else she has in store for 2021!

Mayim is returning to our screens for her new sitcom, *Call Me Kat.*

Mayim plays Kat, a charming, optimistic, and clumsy woman who takes the money her mother had put aside for her wedding and uses it to open a cat café in Kentucky. The show is being produced by Mayim's Big Bang co-star Jim Parsons, who Mayim told Diply she couldn't be happier about working with again. "Jim brought it to me, and I literally thought he was just asking if I thought it was a good idea because we're friends," Mayim said.

"I was like, 'oh, I think that's so cool, I think that's really awesome,' and he was like, 'No, I'm bringing it up because I want you to be in it,'" Mayim laughed. "I had no idea because I always assume that I annoy everyone, but apparently Jim still wants to work with me!"

"To be perfectly honest, many people on my side were like, 'Ooh, I don't know if this is what you should be doing after *Big Bang*," Mayim told us.

"But Jim and I believed in it very strongly, and boy, I'm sure glad that we did," Mayim said, adding that Call Me Kat was sold to a showrunner without even a script and that it eventually went to Fox after a four network bidding war.

Mayim is grateful for the opportunity to work with Jim again, but told Diply that she would love to get to work with her other Big Bang co-stars again soon. "This is really our project that we get to work on together, but I miss all of my old friends, and I would love to get to work with them," she said.

While Mayim mirrored her *Big Bang Theory* character in a lot of ways (hello, literal neuroscientist, anyone?), she told Diply that people will see a lot more of her in Kat.

"I think Kat is a lot more like I am," Mayim told us. "Anybody who knows me is definitely going to see that she's very much a Mayim character. She's kind of clumsy, and she's awkward, but she's fun, and optimistic, but has a sharp sense of humor," Mayim said. "There's a lot of me in this character, like someone took the quirkiest parts of her and me and put them together. It's gonna feel a lot more comfortable for me."

Of course, another huge difference between Call Me Kat and Big Bang is that Call Me Kat was filmed during a pandemic, and the lack of a live studio audience played a huge impact on the feel of filming the show. "On Big Bang, jokes lived or died based on how they played in front of an audience," Mayim told Diply, and she's hoping that for season two, they're able to have people in the studio once more.

Of course, even with another sitcom under her belt, Mayim has been staying busy.

Mayim's YouTube channel has close to a million subscribers, but that hasn't stopped her from speaking her mind when it matters — and knowing the right time to listen instead of speak. "There's definitely enough celebrities sticking their nose in lots of issues. I don't feel the need to talk about every single thing, but since I've received so much criticism for something that I didn't even do," Mayim explained, referencing a persistent claim that her children are unvaccinated or that she herself is anti-vaxx despite this not being the case, "In general, I try to only talk about something if I can bring something new to the table."

Bringing something new to the table is exactly what Mayim plans to do with her upcoming podcast, Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, which launches on 1/13/21. It's focused on a wide array of mental health topics that Mayim wants to tackle head-on, "with the hope that I'm bringing my own lens to them."

We're so excited for everything Mayim has in store for 2021! You can catch Call Me Kat on January 3rd on Fox, and you can subscribe to Mayim Bialik's Breakdown on Apple Podcasts now!
