Anthony Hopkins Celebrates 45 Years Of Sobriety: 'Just Keep Fighting'

While this awful year hasn't given us much to celebrate (and even the stuff we can celebrate we have to do so from a distance, or God forbid, over Zoom), there are definitely some good pieces hidden amongst the bad headlines, sort of like how even though I burn dinner almost every night, if you scrape away the burnt pieces, there's some pretty good chicken under there!

Anthony Hopkins, beloved and celebrated actor, has just given us a new piece of unburnt chicken to celebrate!

Anthony Hopkins is a Hollywood legend.

The star, best known for his creepy and fantastic Oscar-winning portrayal of serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence Of The Lambs and the two follow-up films, has also appeared in The Remains Of The Day, The Two Popes, and Fracture, along with tons of other roles.

He's a talented guy, obviously!

Anthony just shared a video to his social media noting that this year marks a very special milestone in his life — and it's not about his acting career!

"Hello everyone. Good morning. Well, new year is coming. It's been a tough year, full of grief and sadness for many, many, many people," Anthony began the black-and-white video he shared to both Twitter and Instagram on December 29th, just two days before his 83rd birthday.

"But 45 years ago today, I had a wake-up call," Anthony added.

"I was heading for disaster, drinking myself to death," Anthony continued. . "I'm not preaching, but I got a message, a little thought that said, 'Do you want to live or die?'"

"I said, 'I want to live.'"

"And suddenly the relief came, and my life has been amazing, and I may have off days and little bits of doubt, and all that, but all in all, I say hang in there," Anthony continued.

That's such an inspiring message!

"Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday," Anthony explained.

"Just keep in there, just keep fighting. Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid," Anthony went on to say.

Now that sounds like something his character Odin from the Avengers films would say, but they're even more powerful coming from the man himself!

"That's sustained me through my life."

"And that's all I've got to say, and happy new year. This is going to be the best year. Thank you," Anthony finished.

Congratulations to Anthony on his impressive sobriety, and we hope he's right about 2021!
