Quotes Anyone Who'd Love To Just Win The Dating Game Already

Admittedly, I've never been good that the whole dating game thing.

When it comes to games, I'm very much the sort of person who prefers strict rules and minimal chance. However, the game of dating always feels like I'm trying to play a game of poker blindfolded, with the rules written by the same game master from Alice in Wonderland who thought flamingos were a good idea.

And getting older hasn't done me any favors in that department.

Especially considering I was off the market for almost a decade.

When I got with my ex, dating sites like OKCupid and PlentyOfFish were still fairly new and apps were still a ways off. Hell, the first iPhone was released after we started dating.

So to say that the whole dating ecosystem has changed since then would be an understatement.

Add on the fact that I'm now in my mid-30s, my idea of a good time involves movie night at home, and I really, really don't get the appeal of "hook-up culture" — no judgment, just not for me — and I'm kind of at a loss.

What do you even talk about on dates now?

Classics like the weather are colored by the realities of climate change, religion and politics are always out, but especially now, and even talking about family and work is a minefield of recent layoffs, COVID-19 losses, and conspiracy theories.

You know what? I think I'll just keep sitting out for the next few years.
