10+ Hidden Details That Were In Movie Posters We All Missed

When it comes to a movie poster, the devil is in the details.

Like a book cover, it helps us determine whether we want to watch a movie or not. Sometimes, there are even hidden details that are so clever, they make us go "whoa" once we notice them.

Ready for this? Here are 10+ hidden details that we all missed in movie posters.

1. *Gone Girl*

2014’s Gone Girl had us believing that Ben Affleck’s character murdered his missing wife.

But what’s hidden in the poster tells a different story.

If you look at the top, you’ll see two female eyes. At first glance, they seem innocent, but after watching the film, you'll know that she was alive and well the entire time.

2. *Split, Unbreakable*

  1. Night Shyamalan knew what he was doing when he created the posters for these two films.

Basically, if you were to line up the two posters, the cracks would line up, revealing that these two films are indeed from the same universe.

That's not all. Some fans have found connections between the main characters of the two films.

For example, since the cracks line up, they believe that Mr. Glass is responsible for the powers of Split’s protagonist, Kevin Crumb, played by James McAvoy.

3. *Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull*

Paramount Pictures

Steven Spielberg may have been running out of ideas for the fourth film in the Indiana Jones franchise.

The poster featured a giant crystal skull peering over his shoulder, but no one knew why. Maybe symbolism that the franchise was going extinct?

4. *Silence of the Lambs*

Before this highly anticipated movie even hit the box office, psychological warfare had already begun.

If you look at the moth's marking on Jodie Foster's mouth, you can see the naked women from “In Voluptas Mors."

This was conceived by Salvador Dali and was shot by Philippe Halsman.

With the women posing naked to form a skull, the hidden image foreshadows the main themes of the film, which are pleasure and death.

5. *Mother!*

[Paramount])https://www.indiewire.com/2017/05/mother-poster-darren-aronofsky-jennifer-lawrence-1201816935/)

The 2017 horror movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence, had us on the edge of our seats as we watched a mother of two sons baffled by the actions of her belligerent husband.

What was less obvious, however, was the foreshadowing of all the craziness that was to come in the movie’s poster.

This included a creepy jewelry box and a lighter.

As if that wasn't weird enough, there was also a very ghastly face that appears to depict the man played by Javier Bardem.

With this, the movie makes a bit more sense.

6. *Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood*

Only Quentin Tarantino would include himself on his own movie poster!

You’ll spot him just over Margot Robbie’s left shoulder. There, we see Tarantino, shooting on what appears to be his camera crane. Very Tarantino.

7. *Toy Story 4*

What’s the Buzz about this poster? If you look closely, there is a hidden message with Forky holding a fork and spoon in his hands.

This is foreshadowing for the film’s plot, as Forky has an existential crisis throughout. Basically, the poster shows that he is questioning his sentient existence.

8. *Overlord*

In this one, what appears to be blood splatter on the poster is actually an artistic rendition of the paratroopers that stormed Normandy.

This is quite the nod to the U.S., British, and Canadian forces who defended France.

9. *Under the Silver Lake*

The poster of this black comedy thriller features a subliminal picture of what appears to be a pirate in the bubbles.

Is this an omen of the secrets that lead the main character, Sam, played by Andrew Garfield, into a scandal and mystery in Los Angeles?

10. *Just my Luck*

The poster for the movie features a paparazzi photo of Lindsay Lohan. The photo was taken by a photographer working for the New York Post.

The studio even changed the movie's tagline to "Everything changed in the wink of an eye."

11. *Parasite*

This Academy Award-winning movie just knew they were bound to win an Oscar.

That’s because they hid an Oscar on the movie poster under the coffee table. The movie went on to win Best Picture. Talk about manifesting!

12. *Cloverfield*

If you were to duplicate and then flip the movie’s poster, you would uncover that the smoke appears to form the final monster of the movie.

This would make it the first glimpse that the world had.

13. *Brave*

If you look under the "R" in Brave, you’ll see a bear. This is suspected to be the same giant bear that follows Merida on her journey.

This may not be the case, but we’ll let our imagination do the thinking.

14. *Baby Driver*

The 2017 action film’s poster uses a gun shooting a car and streaks to depict a bullet and smoke.

This is foreshadowing the fact that the movie is about a getaway driver constantly being chased and fired at.

15. *Gremlins*

If you look at the cult classic's poster, you'll spy a familiar character from another cult classic: E.T. We wonder if he has his Reese's Pieces!

Considering both movies were produced by Amblin Entertainment, his cameo makes sense.

16. *Legend*

This one is sooo clever. To make light of the two-star review given by The Guardian, the poster placed the stars between the two Tom Hardy heads.

This made it look like the review was actually five-star. Brilliant!

17. *Halloween*

Look carefully at the hand holding the knife and try to focus on the four knuckles of the clenched fist.

After a while, you should be able to see a screaming face begin to materialize. How creepy is that?!

18. *The Dark Knight Rises*

This one is tricky so in order to see it, you'll need to direct your focus to the tower underneath the bat symbol's right wing.

Amid the falling rubble, right in the center of the tower, is the symbol for the House of El, aka Superman's "S."

19. Passengers

If you've spent any time in the Scouts then you'll likely recognize that the dots and dashes underneath the movie's title are actually Morse code.

A quick consult of a decoder chart reveals a hidden message that reads "SOS."

20. *Star Wars: Episode VII - The Last Jedi*

If you look at the collage of images as a whole, they form a picture of Darth Vader's head and mask.

Luke is the top of the head, Rey and Kylo are the eyes, Leia is the nose, and the logo is the mouth. It's hard to see but this should help.

21. *Watchmen*

HBO

Spoilers ahead for those who have yet to see Watchmen. The original poster alludes to the series' shocking twist-ending.

True, we don't know for sure whether or not Angela inherited Cal's (Doctor Manhattan) powers but seeing her caked in blue light leaves little to the imagination.

22. *Us*

Did you ever wonder why the tethered only wear one glove? It's one of many symbolic representations of duality, a principal theme in the film. It signifies that they have one hand in this world and one below it.

Also, if you fill the negative space of the scissors above, you'll begin to see something new.

The image that begins to form is that of two heads (two sisters perhaps?) facing in opposite directions.

This is even more symbolism that seems to suggest the divergent paths of the film's characters.

23. *District 9*

In hindsight, the ending of District 9 was spoiled by one of the film's first teaser posters.

"No Humans Allowed" is not only a warning, but it's also a not-so-subtle allusion to the fate of the film's main character.

24. *Kong: Skull Island*

Warner Bros. / United Artists

I think it's pretty safe to say where the inspiration behind Kong: Skull Island's movie poster came from.

The deeper implied metaphor seems to also be suggesting that Kong is Kurtz and Kurtz is Kong, which is an interesting interpretation.

25. *Saving Mr. Banks*

The poster for Saving Mr. Banks is about portraying the human beings behind two legendary characters: Mickey Mouse and Mary Poppins.

It would appear to be suggesting that this movie is about stepping out from the shadows that define us.

27. *Thor: Ragnarok*

The Thor films are steeped in fairly accurate Norse mythology. When you look at the poster for Thor: Ragnarok, one of the first things you notice is a grouping of concentric circles.

This is supposed to symbolize the Nine Realms of Norse cosmology.

28. *A Cure For Wellness*

If ever there was a more deliciously paradoxical movie title than A Cure For Wellness, I certainly haven't heard it.

The dropper is modeled after a Victorian-era poison bottle and serves as a commentary on the inevitable disaster of seeking out impossible ideals of human perfection.

29. *Avengers: Age Of Ultron*

Can you spot the missing Avenger? I'll give you a hint: he's got a bright red face, a grass-green suit, and a billowing yellow cape.

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane — it's Vision!

30. *Doctor Strange*

The teaser poster for Doctor Strange not only reveals the film's villain but also heavily alludes to the final outcome as well.

Have a look at Strange's hand; you should be able to make out the tortured face of Dormamu.

31. *Spider-Man: Homecoming*

The Avengers Tower in the background alludes heavily to the film's ending, when Tony offers to make Peter an official part of the team.

It could also be interpreted as Peter evading his destiny, that he can only run away from being an Avenger for so long before it finally catches up with him.

32. *Jaws*

Nudity is not something that's normally condoned on movie posters. You'd think that showing a nude girl swimming with a giant shark beneath her would be bound to make waves, especially in 1975.

Yet for some odd reason, no one ever really seemed to notice.
