George Clooney Defends Tom Cruise After Leaked Audio Clip Goes Viral

Earlier this week, leaked audio of Tom Cruise yelling at the crew of the upcoming Mission Impossible 7 film went viral. Social media has been torn about the rant, with some people believing it was warranted, while others felt it was out of line.

Now, George Clooney is publicly defending the actor.

As we all know, many Hollywood projects have resumed production amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, it is not uncommon for a set to get promptly shut down for two weeks after someone on the crew contracts COVID-19.

One of the most recent shutdowns was the Mission Impossible 7 set in Italy. In October, Variety reported that the film was forced to shut down for a week after crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

Tom Cruise is not willing to take any chances on the American set of *Mission Impossible 7* and let the crew members know as much in a new, leaked rant that went viral earlier this week.

In the two minute clip, the 58-year-old can be heard yelling and cursing after seeing COVID-19 protocols being broken on set.

"We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us," the rant begins.

"You can tell it to the people who are losing their [expletive] homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education. That’s what I sleep with every night – the future of this [expletive] industry," he continued.

"Do you understand what I want? Do you understand the responsibility that you have? Because I will deal with your reason, and if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t deal with your logic, you’re fired."

"That’s it. That is it. I trust you guys to be here," he concluded.

The reactions on social media have been mixed, to say the least.

Now, George Clooney is defending Tom during a new interview with Howard Stern, saying he doesn't believe Tom overreacted.

"He didn't overreact because it is a problem, I have a friend who's an AD on another TV show who just had the almost exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response," he said, according to E! News.

However, George didn't totally agree with the delivery, saying he "wouldn't have done it that big. I wouldn't have, you know, pulled people out."

"You're in a position of power and it's tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he's absolutely right about that. And, you know, if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible. It's just not my style to, you know, to take everybody to task that way."
