Walmart Worker Has Surprising Reunion With Lost Dog When It Wanders Into Store

Every time I let my dogs out into the backyard, I glance out the window to check the gate. I know that it's closed and locked, and that my boys microchipped, licensed, and wearing collars with two emergency phone numbers on them, but I still worry about what would happen if they got out of the yard.

That's probably why stories of pets reuniting with their humans make me ugly cry with joy.

Seriously, when Shadow comes over the hill in *Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey* I get dehydrated.

So this viral story had me at "reunion with lost dog" but it was only after I read it that I realized how special it was in the wide world of happy tears.

Abby is a 4-year-old rescue pooch who escaped her yard on November 8, leaving just her collar and leash attached to the post.

Her human, June Rountree and her husband reached out to neighbors and all the local rescues and shelters, but no one had seen the lost pup.

After three weeks of searching, she had begun to lose hope.

Then on November 28, she was working her usual shift behind the Walmart cash register, when a commotion got her attention.

A stray dog appeared to have gotten into the store and people were trying to catch it.

June had to stay at her post, but other staff members were tracking the dog around the aisles.

One of those coworkers was Danielle Robinette, who followed the pooch as they ran up another aisle and towards the checkouts.

Specifically, the dog was headed to June's lane.

Shocked, June saw that the dog was black, with a prominent white patch on their chest and snout. It was Abby!

When she called her dog's name, Abby joined her and it took several minutes of joyful tears before June could explain the situation to the watching crowd.

Danielle described it to The Washington Post, "She looked up with tears streaming down her face, and said: 'This is Abby. She’s been missing for three weeks.' I was just floored."

It was Danielle's now-viral Facebook post that spread the story beyond local news.

Of course, we can't know if Abby was just lucky or if she specifically sought out her human's workplace, but either way, I'll admit to some tears of joy at the reunion.
