10+ Celebrities Who Had Problems Working For Disney

Disney will always be known for creating some of the world's most magical movies.

It's also started the careers of many stars we're all obsessed with today. This includes Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers, and more.

But Disney doesn't have the best reputation, either.

Case in point: these 10+ celebs who had problems working for Disney.

1. Demi Lovato

Working at Disney may have made her a star, but it was also one of the most difficult periods of her life.

"I joke that I sometimes have PTSD after leaving the channel, because if my schedule starts to get too busy, I rebel and I get bitchy," she told Billboard.

She also took issue with Disney trying to change her "imperfections."

In an interview with Allure, she revealed that they asked her to fix the gap between her two front teeth at the start of her career.

Changing it is something she still regrets.

2. Joe Jonas

Since Disney prefers for their actors to look young, Joe had to shave every day while filming Jonas.

"When the show was done, I cut my hair off and grew as much of a beard as I could," he told Vulture.

That wasn't the only time he spoke out against Disney.

In another interview with New York Mag, he slammed Disney for its “terrible” writing and strict rules.

"It just ended up being some weird slapstick humor that only a 10-year-old would laugh at."

3. John Boyega

The actor has been one of Disney's most outspoken critics as of late.

While he liked his character's development in The Force Awakens, he believes that it all went downhill during the last few films.

"The Last Jedi, if I'm being honest, I'd say that was feeling a bit iffy for me," he told Hypebeast.

This has led him to pull a Katherine Heigl where he openly criticized the material he's been given — and rightly so!

3. Oscar Isaac

Like John, Oscar expressed disappointment over how his character was treated in the Star Wars films.

His biggest gripe was over Disney's hesitancy to explore the chemistry between his character Poe Dameron and Boyega's Finn.

"I would try to push it a bit in that direction, but the Disney overlords were not ready to do that," he told IGN.

So far, there have only been a few LGBTQ+ characters in the Disney/Marvel Universe.

Hopefully, that changes sooner rather than later.

4. Shia LaBeouf

If Disney had it their way, the actor would have had a music career.

But Shia told MTV News that he never wanted to sell out. "I never really felt like I fit in there," he said.

5. Nick Jonas

When Nick and his brothers were first rising to fame, they famously wore purity rings.

But as soon as they got older and broke out of the Disney mold, Nick called the situation "annoying."

He bared all to a special men's edition of *Harper's Bazaar*:

"Once I got older, and I experienced love, and had sex, and defined my view of the world, and what faith and religion actually meant to me, I accepted that [the rings] were probably a fascinating story to people."

6. Selena Gomez

While Disney will always be a part of her story, the expectations that came with this made her happy to close the chapter for good.

"I was being held to this expectation of being the good girl," she told The New York Times.

This made her feel inauthentic to herself and to her music.

"I had to have moments where I was crying and I was like, ‘Why am I not in love with what I do?’ I was forced to get very uncomfortable for a while in order to make the decisions I made.”

7. Hilary Duff

The actress may be one of the most "normal" stars to come out of Disney, but that doesn't mean that she loves the brand.

Since being so busy was taking a toll on her mental health, she told Pride Source that she decided to "bow out."

8. Bella Thorne

The star shed her Disney skin as soon as she could.

"When I got off [the Disney Channel], I stopped listening to people telling me that I needed to be this and that," she told Nylon.

She also shared the different ways Disney would try to alter her personality.

This included how she would talk in a high-pitched voice during interviews to fit into the "whole innocent Disney appeal."

Thank goodness she's free to be herself now!

9. Vanessa Hudgens

The star's issue with the brand has to do with them forcing her to apologize for her nude photos leaking in 2007.

"It was a really traumatizing thing for me," she shared to Cosmopolian UK.

10. Sebastian Stan

The actor who plays Bucky Barnes/White Wolf in the MCU took shots at Disney when he shared a screenshot onto his Instagram Stories in January.

"Together until the end of the line," read the tweet. "Or together until bad, inconsistent, out-of-character writing turns Steve Rogers into his own anti-thesis."

11. Miley Cyrus

Despite being the star of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus said that she was seriously underpaid.

She told Elle that she was the least-paid cast member since they took advantage of her being a young kid who wanted to be on Disney.
