'It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' Won't Air On TV This Year For The First Time In 54 Years

There are so many Halloween movies that are classics that we love to watch on TV every year like Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. But for those of us who are too young (or too scared) for movies even remotely spooky, there's always been It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Until this year.

*It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* is a Halloween classic.

The movie follows the Peanuts gang as they celebrate Halloween, most notably Linus awaiting a visit from The Great Pumpkin himself who will (hopefully) rise from the pumpkin patch and deliver Halloween presents to all the boys and girls around the world.

Every year since 1966, *It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* has aired on television.

This year, however, the movie will exclusively be available to stream on Apple TV, according to a new press release.

This is a huge change, but it's clear that Apple TV hopes to become a part of these holiday traditions.

The movie will be available to stream for free!

"The Halloween special will begin streaming globally on Apple TV+ on October 19, and will be available for free from October 30 until November 1 as a special treat on Apple TV+," the press release reads.

Some fans are not happy about this change.

"The risks of not owning physical media were finally realized. Despite having bought it years ago, the rights for 'Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown' has been withdrawn, robbing us of the chance to share it with my 6yr old niece & be completely disappointed at her disinterest," read one tweet, looking at it humorously.

Some fans felt that this "ruined" the holiday tradition.

"I know i can watch it on streaming anytime i want but there was something pretty special about watching Its the Great Pumpkin or a Charlie Brown christmas every holiday season on ABC," one fan lamented.

It doesn't seem to be a popular move.

"ABC quietly let its contract expire with regards to airing Peanuts specials so if you're kinda bummed about them no longer airing It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, it's only gonna suck even more knowing A Charlie Brown Christmas is gonna be locked to a streaming service too," one fan speculated.

That fan was correct: A similar fate awaits other Peanuts holiday specials.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be available for free from November 25 until November 27 and A Charlie Brown Christmas will be available for free from December 11 to December 13.
