8+ Interesting Facts About Orlando Bloom Fans Didn't Know

Everything is in full bloom for Orlando Bloom lately.

He just welcomed his daughter, Daisy Dove, with Katy Perry, and he's even currently engaged to the singer.

But the years leading up to this hasn't been easy. He got divorced from Miranda Kerr and even took a break from acting.

For more, here are 10+ interesting facts about the actor.

1. He first connected with fiancée, Katy Perry, over In-N-Out burger.

It all started during their first meeting at the 2016 Golden Globes.

"He stole one off of my table," Perry told Jimmy Kimmel. "I was sitting with Denzel Washington and he took it and I was like, ‘Wait, who—oh, you’re so hot! Fine, take it.’ And then I saw him at a party, and I was like, ‘How are those onions resting on your molars?'”

Their relationship hasn't been perfect, though.

For starters, they took a break in 2017 after over a year and a half of dating.

Then, after they got back together, Katy told Ryan Seacrest that they have a lot of "friction".

2. He was once married to Miranda Kerr.

Once upon a time, they were a match in celeb royalty heaven: a movie star and a Victoria's Secret model.

The pair were married for three years and even welcomed a son, Flynn, together.

Sadly, things didn't work out, as they separated in 2013.

Miranda told The Edit that getting divorced was the right thing to do. "We weren’t bringing out the best in each other," she said.

These days, the exes are now in a good place.

It took some time, but they have to be united for their son.

Also, it helps that both exes have moved on.

Kerr married Snapchat founder, Evan Spiegel, while Bloom is engaged to Perry.

3. He was once celibate for six months.

There was nothing blooming downstairs for a while...

The actor told The Sunday Times that his period of abstinence strengthened his feminity.

“I was going to do three months, but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself."

It even strengthened his relationship with Perry when they first met.

“We actually hung out and connected,” Bloom said of their first night together.

“She’s very surprising. She’s witty and smart and intelligent. She’s charismatic, but she’s direct, too, and this dynamic was intriguing to me.”

4. He got backlash for starring in *Pirates of the Caribbean*

It's the franchise that made him a star, but he did receive criticism for taking on the cookie-cutter handsome leading man.

Even so, Bloom doesn't regret the experience. "I don't look back. I don't look back in anger," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Nobody steps out of the door or onto a set — whoever you are, whether you're an actor, director or producer — nobody is trying to do bad work," he continued.

"I know when I put my head down at night, I've done my best with everything that I've ever done."

5. However, you're not likely to see him in big-budget films anymore, as he's turned to the independent side of films.

One of his latest films, Retaliation, helped him shed his movie star image, as he got rave reviews for his performance.

6. He's A-okay with nudity in films.

To him, it's just part of the job (let's also not forget his nude paddleboarding scandal of 2016).

“I didn’t think about the nudity aspect," he told The Hollywood Reporter after his character, Malky, went nude in Retaliation.

"I just thought about what was required in the moment to get the job done."

7. He once took a break from Hollywood.

This happened after he was thrust to stardom due to The Pirates of the Caribbean. After a while, he became sick of seeing himself everywhere.

"I think, you just burn out to an extent to yourself and for an audience," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

He also took a break to focus on parenting his son.

"Because of my own story with my childhood and the relationship with my father, it was just really important to me that I was very present for [my son]."

8. He got to meet Prince Harry before he played him for a role.

In case you haven't heard the news yet, Orlando is set to voice Prince Harry on the upcoming HBO Max animated comedy series, The Prince.

It was actually Katy Perry who convinced him to take on the comedic role.

"I hadn't met him when I signed up to do it, and I subsequently met him and he's such a nice guy," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"This guy is so nice, and I think he's got a great sense of humor. I hope he maintains that through this because they're sort of on a pedestal," he continued.

9. He lost his dog Mighty this year.

Ugh, this hurts our heart.

Mighty went missing this past July. Tragically, after seven days of searching, the dog was found dead.

"I don’t recall a time in my life where I’ve been so broken wide open, Orlando shared on Instagram.

To commemorate his furry friend, Bloom got a tattoo in his honor.

"I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing... I left no stone unturned, crawled thru all the man holes, under the roads, searched every back yard and creek bed," he wrote.

10. He got Ashton Kutcher fired from *Elizabethtown*.

Well, kinda.

When Kutcher ate spicy wings on the YouTube segment, Hot Ones, he revealed that the film's director, Cameron Crowe, originally wanted Orlando Bloom for the male lead, but Bloom had been unavailable.

“I went [to] audition, he cast me, and then we started working on it. I think he wanted to see the character rehearsals all the way," he said.

Ashton wasn't really connecting with the character.

But right when the director was going to let him go, he found out that Orlando Bloom had just become available.
