10+ Facts About Brie Larson Fans Didn't Know

Marvel icon, Brie Larson, has slowly but surely become a household name ever since taking on the role of Captain Marvel. Joining the Marvel universe has really put her on the map.

But she was destined for greatness from a young age.

While we might know a ton about her famous character, there is still so much about her that fans don't know yet!

1. Her first celebrity autograph was from "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" singer, Meat Loaf.

Brie revealed in an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that her neighbor gifted her, her first-ever piece of signed celebrity memorabilia, by Meat Loaf.

2. She was in *13 Going On 30*.

If you're anything like me, you've seen the movie 13 Going On 30 a million times, and don't remember seeing Brie Larson in it.

But it turns out, she had a very small, nearly undetectable role as one of the "six chicks."

3. She is a singer.

While we know her best for starring in Marvel movies, Brie used to be a professional singer!

She has been on tour with Jesse McCartney and has singing credits for her films Hoot, Room, and Scott Pilgrim.

4. Her first acting gig was for Jay Leno.

When Brie was just seven years old, she appeared in a few commercial skits on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

In a later interview with Jimmy Fallon, she revealed that she must have done "about a dozen or two of these fake commercials."

5. She plays guitar.

On top of being an actress and singer, Brie is also a guitarist (seriously, what can't this girl do?!)

She has been spotted on Instagram covering songs by Maggie Rogers and Ariana Grande on guitar.

6. She loves karaoke.

To be fair, who doesn't like karaoke, amirite?

Brie's go-to karaoke tracks are "Burn" by Usher, "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey, "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, and "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child.

Great selections, IMO.

7. She is allergic to cats.

Despite having a feline companion as Captain Marvel, Brie is terribly allergic to cats in real life.

"It was like the joke on set because I could do really crazy things stunt-wise, but the cat was a big obstacle for me," she told USA Today. "It's weird how you can train and get your body to do insane things but allergies are kind of a hard stop. That's where your body's like, 'That's it.'"

8. She once confined herself to her home for a month in preparation for a movie.

This might not seem impressive anymore, since we've all had to confine ourselves to our homes amid 2020's pandemic.

But Brie did it voluntarily in preparation for her film, Room.

"It was [a] stream of consciousness a lot of the time. I'd get really into it and get stuck in a 10-year-old mind for hours at a time," she told BBC.

9. She loves video games.

In an interview with IGN, Brie revealed that she has always been a big fan of Nintendo games like Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario 3D World.

She has also expressed interest in turning the game Metroid into a movie.

10. She was hesitant to take on the role of *Captain Marvel*.

"I did have hesitations," she told Buzzfeed Celeb. "The idea of my face being places and dealing with the sort of, fame stuff was not super appealing to me 'cause I am an introvert."

11. It takes her 30 minutes to get in and out of her *Captain Marvel* suit.

"I was just like, really concerned about going to the bathroom," she told Buzzfeed Celeb about her costume.

"I'm also like, a woman, so I have menstruation, so that was also scary to me, I was like 'What do I do?'"

"'How do superheroes do this?,'" she joked. "But they were super awesome and had tons of extra, you know, zippers and ways that I could get out of it."

"Still takes like, 30 minutes to get out of it to go to the bathroom but it's fine."

12. She did not go to college.

When asked in an interview with WIRED whether or not she attended college, she exclaimed: "No! I'm just not that good at it. I love to learn, but I'm not good at sitting still."

13. French was her first language.

"My history with French is, it was my first language when I was a child. My family is French-Canadian. But by the time I was in first or second grade, I started speaking more English and it kind of died out," she told WIRED.

14. She once jumped out of a window at a house party in college.

In 2015, she told Jimmy Fallon that when she was 18, she attended a Brown University college party in between filming a movie. It wasn't long before the police arrived to break up the party, and to avoid being arrested, Brie made her great escape by climbing out of a window.
