Mariah Carey Opens Up About Her 'Extremely Uncomfortable' Interview With Ellen

There's no denying it: Ellen and her award-winning daytime talk show have been under a lot of heat recently after allegations of a "toxic" work environment were made public earlier this summer.

Now, Mariah Carey is reflecting on one of the show's most controversial moments when she was forced to reveal if she was pregnant or not while appearing on The Ellen Show back in 2008.

As I'm sure you've noticed, social media has been filled with threads and compilations of Ellen's most unsavory moments lately.

The allegations of Ellen's problematic behavior began in March when a Twitter thread "exposing" the TV host went viral.

The news that Ellen isn't the kind and cheerful person she portrays on TV was tough for a lot of people to handle!

Things only got worse when Buzzfeed News published two explosive new articles from current and former The Ellen Show employees earlier this summer.

Some employees claimed they were fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days, while others said they were told not to speak to Ellen if she was around the office.

"That ‘be kind’ [expletive] only happens when the cameras are on. It’s all for show,” one former employee told BuzzFeed. "I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show."

"If she wants to have her own show and have her name on the show title, she needs to be more involved to see what's going on,” another former employee suggested.

This explosive interview launched an investigation by WarnerMedia for workplace misconduct.

The second explosive Buzzfeed article alleged sexual misconduct at the hands of The Ellen Show producers.

Since Ellen's behavior is under a microscope these days, Twitter users have been searching through old clips of *The Ellen Show* in an effort to find examples of the comedian's toxic attitude.

There's the now infamous Dakota Johnson interview from last year where Dakota refuses to be the butt of Ellen's joke and actually calls her out for lying about being invited to her birthday party.

VIVE LA REVOLUTION!

There's also this painfully awkward clip of Ellen being super rude to a Mandarin translator who was helping her interview a guest on her show.

Ellen was snippy to both guests before ending the segment abruptly.

However, there is no denying one of Ellen's most controversial moments was back in 2008 when she offered champagne to Mariah Carey after asking to confirm if she was pregnant or not.

Yep, you read that sentence correctly.

It is common for pregnant women to keep their pregnancy a secret until they carry into the second trimester. So when Ellen asked Mariah to confirm the pregnancy rumors so early on, Mariah was caught off-guard.

After being pressured into drinking the champagne in an effort to avoid the question, Mariah tentatively took a small sip before Ellen exclaimed "YOU'RE PREGNANT!"

Sadly, Mariah would go on to suffer a miscarriage shortly after the interview and had to address it publicly due to Ellen forcing the news out of her.

"I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment, is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Mariah revealed in an interview with Vulture.

"I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage."

"I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment."

Mariah added that there is "an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented."

She concluded: "But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’"

We're so sorry Queen Mimi ever had to go through this!
