Elton John Says Most Modern Hits Are 'Not Real Songs'

Oh kids and their music these days, amirite?!

If I sound like your fav older family member, it's because I'm trying to relate to Elton John who is ready to BASH today's music and lemme tell ya, the man has ZERO qualms about it!

To be fair, I love and adore Elton John as well as modern music, so this is a difficult article for me to even write!

Elton John is one of the greatest singers and performers of all time, there is no DOUBT about that.

So I guess when you're a legend, you can slam today's music shamelessly because you're like hey, you know that song "Rocketman?" THAT'S MY SONG!

Which is truly the flex of the century.

But guys don't worry, he doesn't hate ALL modern music! While chatting with BBC Radio 6 Music, Elton expressed his admiration for recent hitmakers Father John Misty and Conan Gray.

"(Misty) reminds me a little bit of me the way he writes songs,” John said, as reported by NME.

"Conan’s from America and he’s the only person in the American Spotify Top 50 to actually write the song without anybody else."

Elton continued, “Everybody else there’s four or five writers on (a track). You look at most of the records in the charts – they’re not real songs."

He continued: "They’re bits and pieces and it’s nice to hear someone write a proper song."

"I like people who write songs. And there’s plenty of people that do but a lot of them don’t get played on the radio because they’re too sophisticated and we get songs made by a computer all the time and I’m not interested in that."
