10+ Hidden Details In 'Gilmore Girls' Fans Didn't Notice

Gilmore Girls has a place in so many of our hearts. It even got its own Netflix revival in 2016, which allowed us to catch up with some of our favorite characters.

We got to see that heartwarming mother-daughter bond again, witness what new job Kirk had, and finally see if Luke and Lorelai were still together.

For more, check out these 10+ hidden details you didn't catch in the original series.

*Gilmore Girls* is one of the most iconic shows of all time.

It tells a beautiful story about a mother and daughter who act like best friends while undergoing tragedy, love, and everything in between.

It's such a pleasure to watch.

However, while we all love to watch the show, that doesn't mean we actually catch everything that is going on!

There are a ton of hidden details lurking in the background — or sometimes even right in front of our faces — that we didn't notice!

Luckily, this great list will help you see all the ones that you missed! Let's get into it!

1. The set of the pilot episode looks different:

The WB

That's because the pilot episode was filmed in Unionville, near Toronto.

Just take a look at this image from Luke's Diner. Everything about it has an entirely different layout than we're used to seeing.

The rest of the series was shot at the town built at the Warner Bros. studio.

The WB

The fictional town has been used in several other shows and movies, such as Pretty Little Liars, Hart of Dixie, and The Dukes of Hazzard.

But it will always be Stars Hollow in our hearts.

2. Alexis Bledel hated coffee:

It's hard to believe, but true.

Since she didn't like it, she had the showrunners put soda in her cup every time it was supposed to look like she was drinking coffee (which was a lot).

3. Famous singer-songwriter Carole King was on the show:

The WB

She played Sophie Bloom, the sassy owner of Sophie’s Music.

While she got to exercise her acting chops on the show, she also sang the show's theme song, "Where You Lead," with her daughter.

4. The town's troubadour was a real-life musician:

The WB

Sorry to ruin his "mystique," but his name is actually Grant-Lee Phillips (of Grant Lee Buffalo).

He sang a lot of his band's songs on the show, such as "Honey Don't Think" and "Everybody Needs a Little Sanctuary."

5. We never saw Lane's dad:

The WB

Mrs. Kim was enough parent for the both of them, but we still would have loved to see him throughout the series. He wasn't even at her wedding!

Thankfully, we finally got to meet him in the revival.

6. Dave went to school in California for a reason:

Before Lane fell head-over-heels for her bandmate, Zack, she dated another: Dave Rygalski.

As adorable as their relationship was, it was short-lived since Dave had to go off to school.

He ended up going to California, which was not done accidentally.

The WB

That's because he left the show to join The O.C.

So whenever they said, "Dave went to California," that was a clever way of paying homage to the actor and his new gig.

7. There were a lot of celeb cameos:

This included Jane Lynch, Jon Hamm, and Community’s Danny Pudi.

Other celebs had larger roles: Nick Offerman played Jackson's brother and Krysten Ritter played Rory's college friend.

8. Kirk was once someone else:

The WB

When we first met the quirky Kirk, he was actually Mick, a DSL installer who was sent to Lorelai’s house in Season 1 (much to her dismay).

Later, he was changed to Kirk, the man with 100 jobs.

9. We never saw East Side Tilly:

The WB

She's got all the best gossip in town, but we never catch a glimpse of her face!

We would have loved to see a showdown with her versus Babette and Ms. Patty! I wonder who would win.

10. Richard Gilmore’s mother was resurrected:

The WB

It was a miracle! She was referenced in the past tense during the third episode of Season 1, but that all changed in episode 18.

Clearly, they needed her to ruffle Emily's feathers as the disapproving mother-in-law.

11. We never got to see some of the town's restaurants:

This was despite the fact that Lorelai and Rory ate out almost every night.

Yet, we never got to see Al's Pancake World, the Chinese food restaurant, or the famous pizza shop.

12. The Dragonfly has a past life:

The WB

When Lorelai and Sookie were staring up at the property that would one day become the Dragonfly Inn, it was actually the same house from The Waltons.

They used another property for the actual, finished Dragonfly Inn.

13. Kirk had a total of 62 different jobs:

He's truly the jack-of-all-trades.

Over the course of the series, a few of the jobs included retail worker at the beauty shop, termite inspector, and dog walker.

He even started some of his own (failed) ventures!

14. Luke's hat said a lot about his feelings:

It was like a mood ring (but instead, a backward baseball cap).

When he wore the blue hat that Lorelai gave him, he was either pining for Lorelai or dating her.

But when he was wearing the black hat? Watch out!

The WB

This meant that he and Lorelai were split up.

When he wore the blue hat again in the show's final season, this gave Lorelai hope that they could still be together after their failed engagement.

15. There were not 1,000 yellow daisies in Max's proposal to Lorelai:

The WB

Instead, there were thousands and thousands more, which you can tell from the photo.

The show’s co-creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, told Entertainment Weekly, “A thousand yellow daisies actually sounds like a lot."

"But when you put a thousand yellow daisies in a big room, like our set, it’s kind of like a table arrangement.”

We're sure Lorelai didn't mind!

Besides, she got to share the wealth by giving everyone in town yellow daisies before she decided to accept his proposal.

16. The Kim household.

When you see the Kim household, you see the small kitchen and some bedrooms.

But have you noticed that you never see a dining room or a living room? Leisure and relaxation is obviously not a priority in this house!

17. Drella the harpist.

Alex Borstein, who plays Drella the harpist at the start of the show, actually plays more than one role!

She also played Miss Celine, Emily Gilmore's stylist in Season 3 of the show!

18. Producer Helen Pai gave herself a tribute in the show.

The WB

Lane's band name was Hep Alien, which is an anagram for Helen Pai's name!

How interesting is that? This hidden detail would only be known by someone who had dug into some behind-the-scenes facts!

19. Emily Gilmore, the musical movie fan.

This was done purposely since Kelly Bishop, who played Emily, actually has a history of being in musicals!

For example, she was in A Chorus Line and Dirty Dancing. The latter isn't a musical, but it definitely centers around song and dance!

20. Rory as the valedictorian.

While the speech was beautiful to watch, the actual thought process behind this was not the greatest.

Rory was never first in her class (she got a D!). It was always Paris. So from that perspective, Rory should not have been named valedictorian.
