A Gritty Reboot Of 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air' Is In Development

Tons of old television shows are getting the remake or sequel treatment, from Roseanne to Will & Grace, to even Who's The Boss, but the latest show to get remade will be doing so with a bit of a dramatic twist.

Will Smith himself is on board for the new remake of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, which isn't going to be very much like the original sitcom at all.

*The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air* is a television classic.

Following Will Smith as he moves from West Philadelphia (born and raised) to Bel-Air in Los Angeles, California, the show touched on many themes like family, wealth, race, heartbreak, and growing up all while showcasing Smith's charm, talent, and sense of humor.

A reboot is now in development, but it's not quite the remake you'd be expecting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot, called Bel-Air, will be a dramatic take on the series concept, produced by Smith himself and written by Morgan Cooper, who's fake trailer for a dramatic version of the show went viral.

Will spoke about the trailer fondly, saying, "As funny as the episodes are, there was a whole other layer that you couldn't do, like, in a one-hour drama you can do eight-episode arcs."

Will continued his praise of the version of the story Cooper wanted to tell.

"The dramatic versions of these ideas mean that you can use existing storylines but it's not going to seem like you're redoing an episode because the storyline's going to be brand new from the dramatic perspective," he continued.

This is definitely going to be different!

What do you think about this reboot? Will it be a fresh and interesting take on the story? Should they have stuck with the show's beloved sitcom routes? Or should they have just not touched the show at all? Let us know what you think in the comments!
