Just over a year ago, Game of Thrones, (sadly) came to an end. But evidently, there is still some GoT alumni gossip to be had!
In a recent interview with Vogue, Nathalie Emmanuel opened up about what it was like to work on a male-dominated set, and how her castmate, Emilia Clarke, actually had to stick up for her at one point!
The two actors played the roles of Daenerys Targaryen and Missandei, for eight wonderful seasons.
Ladies, we gotta stick together, amirite?
In a recent interview, Nathalie explained what it was like working on a male-dominated series, and how at one point, Emilia had to defend her.
While Emilia, in this case, was the one to stand up for her co-star, somebody else once stuck up for her as well: Jason Momoa.
And even though you may have enjoyed them, she, on the other hand, did not necessarily love filming them.
“I took the job and then they sent me the scripts and I was reading them, and I was, like, ‘Oh, there’s the catch!,'" she added. “But I’d come fresh from drama school, and I approached [it] as a job. If it’s in the script then it’s clearly needed, this is what this is and I’m gonna make sense of it… Everything’s gonna be cool."
"I’ve never been on a film set like this before, I’d been on a film set twice before then," she recalled.
She revealed that she often had to protest with the directors about how much skin she would show in certain scenes.
"I’m gonna cry in the bathroom and then I’m gonna come back and we’re gonna do the scene and it’s gonna be completely fine.”
"It was definitely hard, which is why the scenes, when I got to do them with Jason were wonderful," she said.
"Because he was like, 'No, sweetie, this is not okay' and I was like, 'Oh.'"
"He was so kind and considerate, and cared about me as a human being."
In a recent interview with Vogue, Nathalie praised Emilia for having her back on a male-dominated set.
She explained that during her first season on the show, she had to wear a rather risqué costume, and one of her male colleagues made a pass at her because of it.
"And there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set — I mean, typical".
While it might be typical, it's not okay.
"And Emilia straightaway had my back. It got handled."
Quite frankly, women need other women to back them up in these instances.
"She and I always looked out for each other," she said.
Hopefully whoever made the comment has learned from their past mistakes!
