TikTok Users Are Posting Videos After Cleaning Their Washing Machine's Filter

It's about to get gross in here, y'all. You've been warned.

Okay, SO. People on Tik Tok have discovered that they need to clean their washing machine filters, and trust and believe it is pretty damn nasty.

If you already knew you have to clean that filter, good job! If you're like me and had no idea, buckle up. You're about to learn some stuff you wish you didn't have to.

So, we all know that you have to clean the dryer filter out pretty frequently.

It's right there in front of you when you open the dryer, so it's easy to a) notice, and b) clean.

But what about the washing machine filter?

Turns out, older washing machines indeed do have filters that need changing.

According to The Family Handyman, the easiest way to find where your filter might be is by consulting the owner's manual.

Neat. Mine's gone. Second option?

Second option.

Look in the following places: In the front of the unit behind a small hatch, at the end of the drainage hose, under the cover of your center agitator, and along the top rim of the drum of your washing machine.

TikTok users sure found theirs.

Tera Bee (aka @speedcleaningqueen) posted a TikTok of her cleaning her filter that went viral almost immediately. She found her filter and decided to teach everyone how to clean their own filters!

There are a few parts to clean.

Make sure you have a towel and two receptacles for all the crap you're about to find.

First, check for any instructions related to your filter online. YouTube is a godsend for this sort of thing.

Next, find this hose.

You're going to keep it pointing upward while you pull the top plug out, otherwise you will get nasty water all over you and the floor.

Lay that hose in a bowl or container and let the super smelly water drain out.

Replace the hose.

Once you're done with that, pop the plug back in the hose and replace it. Now it's time for the really gross stuff: the plastic filter.

Unscrew it and pull it out. Try not to barf.

Luckily, Terra's was mostly clean, since she does this pretty frequently. Other TikTok users weren't so lucky, and the crap they found in their filters was insane.

Check this out.

This is a mound of stuff fell out of @cris9113's filter when they pulled their filter out. No way, I am out. I am not looking at this any longer. Nope!

So, now you know that your washing machine has a filter, and if this is the first you're hearing of it, you should probably get ready to clean it.
