Elon Musk And Grimes Forced To Change Their Son's Name From X Æ A-12 To X Æ A-Xii

I know it's felt like literally seven years since Elon Musk and Grimes announced the birth of their son, X Æ A-12. May has been a very long month but, alas, it has come full circle with the official announcement that the new parents have been forced to change their baby's name on account of it being illegal in California, lol.

The world was *beyond* shook when baby boy X Æ A-12 Musk's name was announced.

We knew Grimes and Elon weren't gonna name their kid Bob but I mean come on, we never could have predicted this!

And even though Grimes took to Twitter to try to explain the name to us ~plebs~ the true gag was that IT ONLY MADE IT MORE CONFUSING!

Who doesn't love a name with a stand-alone X, a dash, and a number?!

And while the name was like ~cool~ and ~edgy~ I guess??? People began to wonder if it was like... LEGAL.

Can you legally do this to a child?! Even if it's a child of a BILLIONAIRE?!

Thankfully, we soon received the answers we were seeking.

Speaking with *People* magazine earlier this month, family law attorney David Glass explained why this name WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT be accepted in Cali-for-nia!

"In California, you can only use the '26 characters' of the English language in your baby name," he explained.

"Thus, you can't have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts or other symbols or emojis. Although an apostrophe, for a name like 'O'Connor,' is acceptable."

Glass said that if the couple filled out X Æ A-12's birth certificate at the hospital "with the odd numbers, dashes and symbols, it will be submitted and then rejected and they'll be asked to submit it again."

He continued: "They have an opportunity to appeal the rejection of the birth certificate application but it's unlikely that it will be granted because, again, California ... has been struggling with using symbols."

"They tried to change the [rule] back in 2014 to allow certain characters, accents or umlauts — those sorts of things — and the bill got dropped because [of the cost] to upgrade their computer systems to allow these accents."

Ahhhh, so it's a money issue!

"Anything that has to be filed with the state, they have a handbook that includes this particular sentence that says the birth certificate must be filled out 'using the 26 alphabetical letters of the English language.'"

"I don't think you can say it's illegal — it just won't be accepted."

He concluded: "So your child won't have an official name and won't have a birth certificate and you can't get a social security number until you have a birth certificate and on down the line."

Well, it seems Glass was right!

In a response to an Instagram comment, Grimes let fans know she has had to legally change her son's name from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii.

One dash is allowed, woohoo!

Obviously, this new name is just as ridiculous as the original and Twitter cannot stop making jokes.

Sadly, I don't think this new name will make baby Musk sound anymore "normal" for the schoolyard bullies. SAD!

What do you think of the new name? Is it better or worse than the last? Let us know in the comments below!
