Over the past few years, Tom Ellis' star has been on the rise. The star of Lucifer has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood.

We love him, and we love his character, too (who else never expected to root for Lucifer?).

So in order to provide a little context on The Prince of Darkness, here are 10+ interesting things fans didn't know about Tom Ellis.

That's really Tom singing in *Lucifer*.

Tom recalls a story of a time when he and the crew were out late one night at a Vancouver karaoke bar.

He got up to sing a few songs and blew everyone away.

He's also a talented musician and multi-instrumentalist.

Which, I mean, obviously if you watch Lucifer at all, you'd have seen this on the show.

He has a breathtaking voice and is known to play the piano beautifully. So it's unsurprising to know he is just that talented. He has his mom to thank for that, who was a music teacher when he was a child!

Tom is a twin!

I know what you're thinking and the answer is no: sadly there aren't two Tom Ellises walking around.

Tom has a twin sister by the name of Lucy. Also how weird is that: Lucy/Lucifer? It's an odd coincidence, wouldn't you agree?

Tom uses music and playlists as a way to help him step inside the mind of the characters he plays.

"Building a music playlist is important every time I am figuring out a new role. I like giving a soundtrack to each character, whether it’s something they would listen to, or whether it’s simply something I think would be appropriate for a scene."

He had absolutely no idea that *Lucifer* was actually based on a comic book character created by Neil Gaiman.

"I hadn't used anything from the comic to start with. But since then Neil Gaiman, who was behind the original incarnation, has got in touch with me."

Tom was given comics to read to help him with the role of *Lucifer* by creator Neil Gaiman!

He used to have a crush on fellow *Lucifer* cast mate, Tricia Helfer, in his younger years.

"I was a massive Battlestar Galactica fan as well, and I used to have quite a crush on Tricia back in the day, so there was this sort of Oedipal thing that was gong on…I’m joking."

Picturing Tom Ellis as a band geek makes me love him even more!

Even though you'd never be able to tell from his accent, Tom is actually a Brit!

"I stay in accent all day when I'm at work. At first I found it a bit weird, but we improvise around what's scripted, and it's helpful to not even think about what's coming out of your mouth. I think I've started to dream in American a little bit."
