Considering the world is in a horrid state right now, it makes sense that people are doing the best with what they are given.
That includes the Oscars. They are making some changes to their next award show.

Oscars Change Their Rules For Next Year’s Academy Awards Due To Coronavirus
Considering everything that is going on with the coronavirus pandemic, changes were bound to be made to upcoming award shows.
But right now, this is only for next year.
The reason why are they changing the rules is because since the entire world is basically on lockdown, theaters are shut down, which means that no one can go see movies.

So changes must be made.
For starters, films that are available through streaming or on demand can qualify for best picture.
As well as other special award categories.
The statement read:

"Until further notice, and for the 93rd Awards year only, films that had a previously planned theatrical release but are initially made available on a commercial streaming or VOD service may qualify in the ‘Best Picture’, general entry and specialty categories for the 93rd Academy Awards,"
On Twitter, they also announced:
"Going forward, the Sound Mixing and Sound Editing awards will be combined into one category: Best Sound".
In order to be eligible for orignial score, that score must at least be 60 percent orignial music.
The 93rd annual Academy Awards is currently scheduled for Feb. 28, 2021.
