Couple Puts Out Beer Traps For Pill Bugs And Gives Lizard The Best Night Ever

Spring is here and for many people, that means it's time to get their vegetable gardens growing, but that also means that it's time to fight off the pests that enjoy the buffet of a good row of growing veggies.

For Jessica Ellis and her partner, that meant finding a way to deal with an infestation of pill bugs.

You may know them by the name rolly-pollies or as potato bugs. They are the small brown dudes that roll into a ball when you touch them.

And they really liked Jessica's zucchini plants.

Luckily, there is an easy trick to deal with such a problem: beer traps. Basically, you put out a small container with a bit of beer in the bottom. It attracts the bugs, who then can't climb out of the container.

And the traps seemed to be working, except for one small detail.

They kept moving from where they had been left the night before.

Instead of finding containers full of drowned bugs in the garden bed, the empty containers were under the blueberry bush.

It had been windy the first night, so they thought maybe that had blown the containers.

It didn't explain where the bug bodies went, but it made the most sense.

But the next morning the new traps were right back with the blueberries and it hadn't been windy that time.

In their LA yard, Jessica was used to seeing birds or snails, but other wildlife was rare.

Especially in a fully-enclosed yard. But it turned out that they did have a garden guest, and he was having a good time with the "traps."

It was a little alligator lizard. He's so cute!

Basically, the lizard had been feasting on the buffet of beer-soaked pill bugs before drunkenly dragging his prize over to the blueberry bush for dessert.

Of course, a couple of benders in a row isn't good for anyone's constitution.

So the buffets are going to stop. However, they have named the lizard Graham and hopefully he'll stick around even if free drinks are no longer provided.

Either way, they got a great story out of it!
