Florida Police Officers Thank Local Health Care Workers With Touching Display

A Florida police department recently got creative while thanking local medical workers with a heartwarming display amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Good Morning America reported.

On April 16, officers with the Fort Myers Police Department arranged their patrol vehicles in the shape of a heart outside Lee Memorial Hospital in an effort to show their appreciation for their community's health care "heroes".

The department shared photos of the touching tribute on its official Facebook page.

"We appreciate each of the hard working medical professionals and wanted to simply say 'Thank You'," the post reads. "It was a pretty amazing and personal turnout and we couldn't be more proud to work side by side with you Lee Health."

As of writing, the post has been shared nearly 2,000 times and currently has over 1,600 likes from Facebook users.

It took 15 police cruisers to form the heart, with several law enforcement officials standing in the middle of the shape with signs spelling out "FMPD THANKS YOU."

Officer Kristin Capuzzi is credited with coming up with the idea for the display, and with the help of her fleet lieutenant, she recruited plenty of grateful volunteers from the department to take part.

“It's kind of like our hometown hospital,” she told GMA. “We wanted a nice way to say thank you to our health care professionals.”

Officers arranged for the tribute to take place during the hospital shift change so they could surprise as many health care workers as possible.

“You could just tell we were grabbing their attention,” Capuzzi said. “Some of the nurses were getting in their cars teary-eyed and would come over to take pictures. It was really neat.”

“This was a personal experience that was a simple way to show our appreciation,” she added. “It's tough times and we all have to stick together.”
