Obama To Officially Endorse Biden For President

Former President Barack Obama stayed noticeably quiet during the Democratic presidential nomination process, seeking to avoid placing his considerable influence behind any one candidate.

However, now that the field has fallen away, leaving only former Vice-President Joe Biden to oppose President Trump in November, Obama has signalled that he will finally break his silence and throw his support behind Biden.

Multiple news outlets have indeed confirmed that Obama plans to release a video endorsing his former VP.

The news comes just a day after Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed Biden for president after ending his own campaign.

Biden has also notably gone out of his way not to seek Obama's endorsement up to this point, saying he preferred to "earn this on my own," CBS News reported.

That Obama would endorse Biden remained unsurprising, however.

In addition to their history together, Biden has reportedly been in consultation with Obama about his choice for a running mate for the general election. Biden has already gone on the record saying he intends to pick a woman for his running mate.

Just how active the former president will be in the 2020 race is hotly anticipated, however.

Obama remains an extraordinarily popular figure, with a large social media following of more than 115 million on Twitter and 55 million on Facebook, compared to President Trump's 77 million Twitter followers and 27 million Facebook fans, possibly providing Biden with a significant edge.
