More Fashion Designers Are Stepping In To Produce Masks And Gowns For Medical Workers

As more cases of COVID-19 pop up around the globe, the less equipment hospitals and their workers have to protect themselves from the virus while fighting on the front lines. Sentiments from workers reveal that they're running low on N95 masks, the kind that filter out around 95% of particles floating around in the air.

With delayed action from the government, more and more fashion houses are stepping in to help.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. This news come on the heels of Zara owner Intidex and other beauty brands like L’Oréal and LVMH announcing their own efforts in producing sanitizer, masks, and hospital gowns for medical workers.

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano took to Twitter to address New York's governor.

In the post he said, "If @NYGovCuomo says we need masks my team will help make some. I have a full sewing team still on staff working from home that can help."

In an update, it looks like Christian got the green light, but they just need to make sure everything is safe and meets legal requirements before they can get to producing the supplies.

Fashion designer Brandon Maxwell also followed suit.

Taking to Twitter, Brandon shared that he and his team have begun researching the proper textiles to start making gowns to protect workers.

He also expressed they plan on making masks and gloves once they receive more information on safely manufacturing them.

That's not all. Gucci, YSL, and Balenciaga owner Kering is also opening their facilities to manufacture masks.

According to Bloomberg, Balenciaga and YSL will start producing masks for French hospitals once they are approved to do so, but will be donating a whopping 3 million ordered from China.

Gucci is still waiting approval from Italy to be able to manufacture for the country.

How amazing is all this solidarity?
