Apparently, 'Cats' May Have At One Point Included CGI Cat Buttholes

When it came to the wild ride that was the release of Cats, there were really only two types of people: those that absolutely loved every crazy second of it, and those that absolutely hated it.

Obviously, like any sane person, I'm in the first camp, and Cats is one of my favorite movies of all time. But it apparently came pretty close to being one of my least, and it all came down to one last minute editing change.

It all started with a tweet, as many things do.

Ben Mekler, a director and writer, tweeted that he would feel better about... just about everything going on in 2020, probably, if there was a tell-all book about the making of Cats.

A man named Jack had an interesting anecdote in response.

Jack claimed he had a friend who worked on visual effects for the film who's entire job was to remove CGI cat buttholes from the film.

Okay, so we don't know if that's true, but just the idea of it really... captured the internet's imagination.

People on Twitter were captivated by this suggestion.

I also would pay pretty much anything to have been a part of the "to show buttholes, or not to show buttholes?" conversation that must be pretty standard on any film set.

Ben Mekler took to Twitter to share another update on the butthole situation.

According to ANOTHER anonymous Cats VFX crewmember, there weren't actualy buttholes, but the way that the fur was animated and groomed made it look like there was, alongside other... uh, inappropriate body features for this film.

The question remains: is this a funnier story if the buttholes were on purpose, or if they weren't? Let us know in the comments!
