10+ Celeb Couples Who Got Together Off Screen But Couldn't Last

With how much time they spent on sets, it's no wonder lots of celebs fall in love with their co-stars.

However, given Hollywood's track record for failed relationships, most of these are short-lived.

Here are 10+ celeb couples who got together off-screen but couldn't last.

1. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

IMDb

After meeting on the set of The Last Song, the couple began their whirlwind relationship that would span almost a decade.

After one breakup and a failed engagement, the pair finally rekindled their love in 2016.

By December 2018, they were married. However, this was also short-lived, as the couple called it quits this past summer.

The pair are now divorced and have both have moved on.

Miley is currently dating Australian singer Cody Simpson and Liam is also connected to a fellow Aussie, Gabriella Brooks.

2. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray

IMDb

One Tree Hill fans were ecstatic when two of their faves got together IRL.

This happened in 2003 and by 2004, the costars were engaged.

This was quick, but not as quick as the pair going through a nasty divorce just five months after they wed.

3. Blake Lively and Penn Badgley

IMDb

It's no surprise that Blake and Penn aka Serena van der Woodsen and Lonely Boy took their love off-screen in 2007.

Their chemistry was off-the-charts. Sadly, it fizzled out three years later in 2010, though.

When this happened, the exes still had to work together on the hit CW show.

IMDb

This was something that they chose to hide from the cast.

"I don’t even know how they did it," said Gossip Girl writer and producer, Joshua Safran.

"They kept it from everybody which is a testament to how good they are as actors. Because they did not want their personal drama to relate to the show.”

4. Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr

IMDb

If you thought that Blake and Penn were the only off-screen couple on Gossip Girl, think again.

Westwick and Szohr dated between 2008 and 2010.

She even defended him when he was hit with sexual assault claims in 2017.

5. Alexis Bledel and Milo Ventimiglia

IMDb

Turns out, Bledel aka Rory Gilmore was #TeamJess all the way.

She secretly dated Milo Ventimiglia for four years before they split in 2006.

She's now married and has a child with Vincent Kartheiser, while Milo is still single.

6. Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki

Yep, Penny and Leonard dated in real life for two years before their split in 2009.

This, of course, led to a ton of awkwardness on set.

"We were a little like, ‘We were trying to end the relationship and it kept falling back in,'" Kaley told "Haute Living."

In the end, they were able to defy odds and become close friends.

"We got over it really fast, and we’re closer than ever now. It could have gone either way, and I was really proud of us.”

8. Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall

IMDb

Given the fact that they played siblings on Dexter and Hall's character was, you know, a murderer, fans didn't expect these two to fall in love.

But alas, they did. They even got married on New Year's Eve in 2009 after two years of dating.

Two years later, they got divorced.

9. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder

IMDb

After meeting on the set of The Vampire Diaries, the two co-stars fell in love.

They dated for over three years, beginning in 2009 before calling it quits in 2013. Both have since moved on.

10. Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum

IMDb

These two danced their way into each other's hearts when they starred in Step Up together.

After nine years and one child together, the pair sadly called it quits in 2018.

This was devestating to fans, especially when both exes moved on.

This made their divorce much more real.

Jenna is now expecting her first child with fiancé, Steve Kazee and Chad is currently dating singer Jessie J.

11. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

IMDb

Oh, boy. These two certainly had the messiest of breakups.

They first met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009, but they didn't start dating until a few years later.

They were married in 2014, but the bliss was short-lived, as severe allegations were soon tossed each other's way.

12/ Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling

Despite despising each other at first, these two Canadian actors eventually fell in love after meeting on The Notebook.

Their love sadly couldn't stand the test of time, however, as they split in 2007 after over two years of dating.
