Amber Heard Turns Off Instagram Comments After Petition To Replace Her In 'Aquaman 2' Goes Viral

Amber Heard has disabled all comments on Instagram in an attempt to manage the criticism pouring in after the petition to remove her from Aquaman 2 went viral.

If you've been following the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case, then you're probably aware of the latest development.

CNN

For years, Amber has accused her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, of abusing her, and for the most part, fans have supported her.

The pair split up in May 2016, after 15 months of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January 2017.

Since then, their breakup has gotten messier and messier with every passing year.

After appearing in public with visible bruising on her face, and after serving Johnny with a restraining order, he was labeled an abuser.

Amber even detailed the alleged abusive relationship she had with him in an op-ed for the Washington Post.

While many fans sided with Amber initially, Johnny responded to the allegations — denying that he ever abused her.

He filed a defamation lawsuit again Amber.

"Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator," the lawsuit reads.

In response to the lawsuit against her, Amber claimed that Johnny hit her, ripped out her hair, choked, and tried to suffocate her.

However, the latest development has been the most surprising.

Johnny revealed that he had obtained 87 surveillance videos that captured Amber abusing him — not the other way around.

And finally, a pretty damning piece of evidence was leaked for the entire world to hear for themselves.

An audio recording of Amber admitting to hitting Johnny surfaced on the Internet.

"I'm sorry that I didn't, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you're not punched," a woman's voice can be heard saying.

"I don't know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you're fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you."

In a separate clip, she says: "I can't promise I won't get physical again, I get so mad I lose it." and in another clip, she calls Johnny "a baby."

After the audio clips were released, actions began to be taken against her, starting with a petition to have her removed from her role as a global spokesperson for L'Oréal.

The petition collected over 10,000 signatures.

Since then, a second petition has been started with the same goal in mind — to have her removed from "Aquaman 2."

"Amber Heard, for years now has been claiming to be the victim of abuse from her husband Johnny Depp," the second campaign reads.

"In light of recently leaked recorded sessions between Ms. Heard and Mr. Depp, it has come to the attention of many that it was in fact the other way around."

The new campaign has collected over 300,000 signatures.

Obviously, this likely won't come to pass considering it will be very hard to replace her in the sequel film.

But it's been done before, so who knows what will actually happen?

Besides that, Johnny Depp even got a petition in his honor!

Fans are demanding that he be reinstated to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.

The petitions aren't the only backlash Amber has been facing, however.

An overwhelming number of comments from outraged fans have been flooding her social media pages as well.

While she hasn't removed herself entirely from any social media platform because of it, nor has she discontinued posting content, she has disabled the features that allow people to contact her.

It's probably for the best.

Before she turned her comments off, people were leaving hateful comments like, “we hope you go missing," and remarks about her being an "abuser."

It is unclear whether or not Amber will be in the second Aquaman installment, or if she will be bested by the petition that has been circulating the web.

Beyond all this, we must remember one very important thing.

Everything that has been going on happens behind closed doors, and the public will never know the full truth.

Which means that Heard and Depp can BOTH be victims.

And neither of them should be getting hate from people who don't really know what's going on.

Heard’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said it best:

“The fact that a woman fights or talks back does not mean that she has not been the subject of repeated domestic violence and abuse,” the statement read.

But of course, people lie all the time, making it more complicated.

Do you think that Amber Heard should be allowed to reprise her role in "Aquaman 2?"
