Wendy Williams Is Facing Backlash After Making 'Price Is Right' Joke About Amie Harwick’s Murder

Wendy Williams is facing a lot of backlash after making a tasteless Price Is Right joke about Drew Carey's ex-fiancée Dr. Amie Harwick, who was killed this past weekend.

38-year-old Dr. Amie Harwick was a well known sex therapist in West Hollywood, regularly appearing on TV shows and podcasts as well as her own YouTube channel to discuss her work.

She was an advocate for survivors of domestic abuse as well as a spokesperson for sex workers.

Harwick became engaged to comedian Drew Carey, host of "The Price is Right," back in 2018.

The pair split after less than a year.

According to CNN, Harwick was found unresponsive in her home early Saturday morning.

It was reported the 38-year-old died after falling from a balcony after an alleged attack from her ex-boyfriend.

Harwick's ex, 41-year-old Gareth Pursehouse was arrested.

The FBI-LAPD released a statement that said Harwick had recently expressed fear about the former boyfriend and filed a restraining order against him.

However, the restraining order had expired, and the LAPD said she'd seen Pursehouse two weeks before her death.

Drew Carey has spoken out about the death of his ex-fiancée, saying he was "lucky" she was apart of his life.

He is also petitioning to have the domestic violence laws updated so no one else loses their lives in the tragic way that Amie did.

You can find out more about the petition here.

Now, Wendy Wiiliams is under fire for seemingly making light of Harwick's murder.

On Monday's episode of "The Wendy Williams Show," the controversial talk show host brought up Harwick's death during her "Hot Topics" segment.

She explains the story to her audience and clarifies that it wasn't Carey that killed her.

The segment took a tasteless turn when Williams said “Come on down!” — the famous "The Price Is Right" phrase used by Carey on the game show.

She then titled her head up and down, seemingly referring to Hawick's deadly fall.

The audience remained painfully silent as Wendy went on to question why her team asked her to use the word "allegedly" while speaking.

"He's been arrested? He's in jail as we speak? Alright. Allegedly," she remarked.

Twitter is extremely upset with Wendy's comment.

It has understandably struck a nerve with the many people who loved Harwick and her work.

The clip of Wendy's "joke" has been making its way around social media.

"If this woman is not fired, there is no compassion for women who are abused," wrote one Twitter user.

Drag Queen Farah Moan took to Twitter to express their frustration.

"I honestly wish I NEVER saw this. I can’t stop crying."

Some users are calling for "The Wendy Williams Show" to be cancelled after citing a list of her controversies from 2020 alone.

They have been plentiful, to say the least.

The backlash has been so overwhelming that Wendy's longest running fan account has announced they're going on hiatus.

"We love you Wendy, but we will be taking a break from this page," they wrote to their 30k followers.

Wendy has yet to apologize for her remarks.
