Following the death of his father, one 13-year-old boy's surprise encounter with his new best friend has left people teary-eyed across the internet.
Since a young age, young Logan Kavaluskis had always wanted a dog, as do so many young children.
However, the family was unable to take in a dog of their own.
So, when Logan's father Joe neared the end of his life, he planned out a surprise for his son, so that there would be some happiness in the dark times after his death.
For 9 years, Joe Kavaluskis fought against myeloma cancer, a form of cancer which develops from cells in bone marrow.
However, this did not stop Joe from being an amazing father and husband.
Young Logan explained his father's positive outlook as such:
"[Dad] always had these cool things planned out [...] he turned everything into a good [and] happy thing," Logan told Inside Edition.
It can be difficult maintaining positive in the face of such a battle, but it is a testament to Joe's character that he kept an upbeat outlook and enjoyed every second of his life with his family.
When faced with the tragic reality that he may not have long left to live, Joe plotted one last surprise for his family with the help of his wife Melanie.
"[Joe] had planned it out with me before he had passed away, he said make sure to get Logan a dog, 'cause I know that'll bring him a lot of comfort," Melanie said.
The family told Logan that they were going to pick up a dog that their cousin had bought, with Logan having no idea that the dog was really for him.
In the video, Logan's cousin Jon hands Logan the puppy, saying, "That's from your dad. That's your dog."
Logan can't believe that the dog is his, prompting his cousin to hold his leg saying, "Dad wanted you to have a puppy [...] Do you love him? He is all yours."
Logan's mother explained that the dog has brought a lot of comfort for the whole family at this difficult time, not just Logan.
Logan has since named the puppy Indy and the pair have become near inseparable!
The video had many people sharing their love for Joe's actions in his final days, writing the likes of, "I love that this father thought of his son even in his last days on Earth. May God bless him and his family he left behind."
The wonderful outpouring of messages truly shows how the lasting impression of kindness that Joe left on his family will never be forgotten.
