Teacher Brings His Lessons To Life With Impressive Chalk Drawings

School was rarely a fun experience for any of us, but sometimes, we were lucky enough to get a teacher who went above and beyond for us.

Sure, those teachers didn't necessarily give us any less work than the harder ones, but they encouraged creative thinking in doing it and explained why we needed it enough that we didn't really mind. Very occasionally (emphasis on "very") I would even want to do what they assigned more than play video games that day.

And while it's difficult to tell how well-received one teacher in Taiwan is among his students due to a language barrier, he's certainly leaving folks on this side of the world envious.

By the time we found out about him, Chuan-Bin Chung had already been teaching at the Department of Visual Communication Design of Shu-Te University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for three years.

In that time, he's primarily been teaching illustration, the anatomy of arts, and painting skill.

While his teaching style would likely be hard to apply to other subjects, it seems to fit that curriculum well.

That's because any unit he wants to cover in a given day will likely be drawn out either in chalk or dry erase markers, depending on where he is at the time.

And just from the look of what he puts on the board, it's clear that he knows what he's talking about.

And students throughout the world have taken notice. Although many of the comments on footage of his lessons are in Chinese, he's also received comments in English from people telling him how awesome he is.

They also often lament that they can't speak Mandarin because he's likely as informative to listen to as he is to watch.

Although his class has a textbook, they don't use it in the traditional way.

As he told Bored Panda, "We don’t read it, we draw it. Students, majoring in this area, cannot learn by just reading the pictures on books."

Instead, as he went on to say, they learn while drawing.

So while he creates his impressive work on the chalkboard, there is a room full of students following along at their desks.

It's hard to get distracted and doodle in the margins when drawing is already what you're supposed to be doing, right?

Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell whether he's still at it in recent years.

The last drawing he put on his YouTube channel came from two years ago, so it's hard to tell whether he's stopped teaching or simply stopped recording himself.

For the sake of good education, I can only hope it's the latter.
