Cristian Marianciuc is the mastermind and talent behind @icarus.mid.air. He started the account as a way to document a 100 day project in 2015. The project was to create one paper crane a day and post a photo of the results, but as he finished on the hundredth day, he decided to keep going and carried on creating for a year.
As the year ended, he decided to attempt the tradition of senbazuru, which is the Japanese belief that a wish will be granted to a person who folds 1000 cranes.
"The motivation behind @Icarus.mid.air was to give a physical shape to my days; to mark the passing of time in a creative and meaningful way. I took inspiration from Japanese culture, from the story of Sadako Sasaki, from my family history and from every little and big thing that I could find around me," he said.
