Sarah Hyland Throws Shade At 'Modern Family' While Answering Fan Questions

Guys, major PSA alert:

There may be some major beef going on with Sarah Hyland and Modern Family.

When a fan asked about her character's absence this season, she threw some major shade.

Haley Dunphy has had one of the best character developments on "Modern Family," and dare we say: on television in general.

When she started out, she was a whiny brat who only thought about herself and rarely looked beyond what was right in front of her.

But since the start of the series, she has definitely matured.

Which makes sense, considering we met her when she was only 16!

She has gone from a silly teenager all the way to being a loving mother!

She, of course, went through a lot on the show in order to become who she is.

There have been ups and downs (like the time she got arrested), but all that goes into making her character better and better as time goes on.

But now, we are almost at the end, and she has definitely gotten a handle on her life.

She has a job she loves, children she loves, a man that she loves, and the same family that she has always loved.

And we owe all of that character development to the writers, showrunners, and of course, Sarah Hyland.

A lot goes into making a show and writing a script, but we have to give credit where credit is due, too.

Sarah Hyland has been playing Haley Dunphy on "Modern Family" for the past *11* years.

The actress was just 16 when she first appeared on the Emmy award-winning series.

Now, she's 29, engaged to "Bachelorette" star, Wells Adams, and the show is in its eleventh (and final) season.

The actress recently spoke to E! at the 2020 SAG awards about how she's handling the show ending — and to reveal which cast member has been crying the most.

"We have three episodes left to shoot," Hyland said.

When asked about the "emotional level" on set, she revealed that the person who can't stop crying isn't even a castmember!

It's Jessica, the hairstylist who does her hair!

She "can't stop crying. I love you, Jess!" Sarah laughed.

"We finish at the end of February so we have a whole month, it's fine. We have time."

One thing that has had Sarah crying lately, however, is the sudden death on last week's episode.

In the episode, titled "Legacy," Sarah's TV dad, Phil Dunphy (played by Ty Burrell) visited his dad Frank (Fred Willard) after Phil was worried that he was suffering from dementia.

That was sadly the last time Phil visited with his father since he passed away shortly after.

“My dad was okay, and my takeaway from our day was, don’t miss the chance to let the people you appreciate know that," Phil said in the show's eulogy.

As you can imagine, Frank's shocking death caused viewers to keep their tissues close that night.

We're still not over it.

Also reacting to the sudden death was Hyland, who admitted on Instagram that she found out the heartbreaking news at the same time as viewers.

“I don’t read scripts of episodes of Modern Family that I’m not in, so I just found out that my grandpa’s dead along with all of you,” she said on her Instagram Story.

“I still feel special," she added, before throwing what appeared to be shade towards the show.

“I guess I should’ve put a spoiler alert for Grandpa Frank dying, but I was just caught off-guard. Like, as his granddaughter, you think I’d be invited to his funeral.”

As it turns out, this wasn't the only time Sarah threw shade.

She also threw some recently while answering fan questions about the show's final season.

It all started when a fan tweeted: "Why has Haley been missing from so many episodes of ‘Modern Family” this season?"

This prompted Sarah to get super honest on her character's absence.

Sarah's character Hayley welcomed twins, Poppy and George, in the season 10 finale last year. She had them with her husband, Dylan Marshall (Reid Ewing).

Sarah's shady tweet led to a huge discussion from fans.

They criticized the Emmy-winning show for what they've done to Haley's character.

"They totally destroyed her character.. so sad with what they did to Hayley!" a fan tweeted at the star.

They continued: "A few seasons ago she was gonna be this bad fashion [expletive], she wasn’t dumb, she found her thing and was going to be successful doing what she loved. Now they just dumbed her all the way down again."

Another simply said, "they’ve done your character so dirty."

Others couldn't help but wonder if there's some bad blood going on between Sarah and the show.

"the shadeeee," one tweeted.

Haley not getting the screentime she deserves has even led to some fans calling for a Haley spin-off.

At the end of the day, though, fans have to remember that the cast and crew of "Modern Family" is also a family.

As we all know from our own families, this means that things won't always be smooth-sailing.

And why should it? Life would be way too boring.

The final episode of Modern Family airs on April 8.
