Alex Trebek Gives Health Update Amidst Cancer Battle: 'I Have Good Days And Bad Days'

Alex Trebek is opening up about his cancer battle nearly a year after his initial diagnosis.

Trebek's health and the future of "Jeopardy" was at the forefront of conversation for the television host at ABC's Television Critics Association winter press tour this past Wednesday. "Jeopardy: The Greatest of All Time" tournament is airing this week.

Trebek shared that he does not have a date in mind for his final Jeopardy episode.

"We'll see what happens," he remarked.

"As long as I feel my skills have not diminished too much and as long as I'm enjoying spending time with bright people... then I'll continue doing it."

He then gave an update on his stage four pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

"Some days are better than others. My resistance is lower than most of you, of course, because of the treatments I’ve been having, the chemotherapy. As you can tell, I have the cold that seems to be going around — but this is the second time I’ve gotten it in a month," he explained.

'They got me off one of my chemo drugs, which was killing me. And I don’t know until tomorrow [when] I go in for some tests, and then maybe another week or so before I know where things stand."

He continued, "But I have good days and bad days."

"And during this tournament — I mentioned this to my wife — because I saw all the shows after they were edited, ‘Did you notice anything about the way I handled the shows?’ And she said, ‘I didn’t notice anything at all.’ I said, ‘I did. I seemed a little slower at the ad-libbed portions.’ I could still deliver the clues at a rapid pace to try to keep up with these three bright contestants.

But I feel that I was not having one of my best weeks, so some weeks are good, some weeks are bad.”

He then revealed he wore a wig occasionally while filming, and that his skin had darkened due to treatments.

"I hope I've been an influence for good and an influence for the benefits of not minimizing the importance of knowledge in one's life," he concluded.
