Friendship can blossom absolutely anywhere; however, one friendship that has been going viral across social media is the wonderful friendship between one grandson and his grandmother.
Friendship can blossom absolutely anywhere; however, one friendship that has been going viral across social media is the wonderful friendship between one grandson and his grandmother.
93-year-old Pauline 'Granny' Kana and 27-year-old Ross Smith are becoming one of the internet's most recognizable comedy duos thanks to their social media antics, which often involve dressing up in matching costumes.
The pair called the above look, "Toys N The Hood". As a result of their comedic outfits, the pair have amassed a following of over 2.7 million followers on Instagram!
So who says that internet fame is a young person's game?!
Around 6-years-ago, Ross Smith was in college at the University of Dayton. While there, he grew a fairly sizeable following on Vine, shooting comedic six-second shorts (R.I.P. Vine).
However, on one video, he asked his grandmother to block one of his basketball shots, and the video blew up across the internet.
Ross began including his grandmother in his videos, and ultimately, this lead to their hilarious matching costumes! In an interview with cnbc, Ross explained the moment that he realized the first video with his grandmother had gone viral:
"My brand just turned into me and Granny taking over the world [...] Our humor is universal, everyone knows Granny is funny."
Not only do the pair have 2.7 million followers on Instagram, but they have over 899, 000 subscribers on YouTube, as Ross and his gran also film videos of the pair of them involved in various antics.
The videos mainly consist of Ross's grandmother pranking people in public by asking them such things as "Did we match on Tinder?" You probably get the idea.
After the first few years of the pair's internet partnership, Ross had apparently taken time off to travel and continue studying. However, he ultimately realized that he preferred spending time with his grandmother and so decided to keep the partnership going.
While most grandparents may not care about their internet presence, Pauline has been enjoying her internet fame! She explained that she loves getting recognized in the shops:
"Even when I'm walking to the plaza, which I live about three blocks away, sometimes people going by with their cars they stop and say, 'You're Granny!' When I get to the plaza, the people in the stores they come up to me. It's just a party at times," Granny told CNBC.
Just over a year ago, the pair went to a variety of Ohio's senior living facilities during Thanksgiving and tried to brighten the lives of Alzheimer's patients by bringing around puppies and cushions for the patients. Due to the fact that Ross's grandmother is fortunate enough not to suffer from this terrible affliction, he felt that this was the perfect way to spend their holiday season.
Even though she may be 93, Pauline shows no signs of slowing down. We can all only hope that we will be so lucky to be having such fun when we reach old age!
Also, hopefully, this will inspire more elderly people to take to social media and begin taking over the internet!
