7+ Beauty Trends We Should Leave In The 2010s

Beauty trends come and go and every era brings on a slew of new ones. Some of them are truly life-changing and others are better left forgotten. I think all of us have fallen prey to at least one bad beauty trend in the past decade.

Here's a list of those trends from the past decade that I hope never come back to see the light of day.

1. Negative Space Eyeliner

I must admit this idea seems fun, but not really for everyday wear. This trend may work on the red carpet but otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

2. Extreme Eyeliner

I can understand a little eyeliner will make your eyes pop, but the extreme eyeliner trend literally does the opposite. I never quite understood this look.

3. Glossy Lips

I have to admit I've fallen prey to this overly done look. I used to love my glossy lipstick and would bring it everywhere. Ha, ha.

4. Matte Lip

On the other side of the spectrum, there's the bold matte lip. A look that isn't for everyone because it could be too extreme for some.

5. Using Too Much Highlighter

Highlighter entered many of our makeup bags in the 2010s, but some of us got a little carried away with this product. If you can blind someone with your makeup, you know you've gone too far.

6. Man Buns

Yes, even men were guilty of following some pretty bad trends. Enter the "man bun." This trend is on its way out, right? Right??

7. Coffin Nails

I used to love to do my nails all the time. Now, I can't be bothered, lol. But even I would never go for this crazy look.

8. Stiletto Nails

Similar to the coffin nails, there were also stiletto nails. They were just as long, but this time they came with an extremely pointy tips. No thanks.

9. Hair Tinsel

I dunno about you, but I thought tinsel was for Christmas trees lol. I guess we should blame Beyoncé and Kesha for this bizarre hair trend.

10. "Jem And The Holograms"-Inspired Makeup

This look was first introduced back in the '80s and then it had a brief revival in 2010s. But it wasn't cute to begin with.

11. Craft Store Glitter

While glitter eye makeup still seems to be popular, using craft store glitter is always a no-no. It's not designed for the delicate eye area.

12. Gel Manicures

I have to admit those gel manicured fingertips do look so pretty, but apparently they can wreck havoc on your nails. So I would just stay away.

13. Heavy Contouring

A little bit of contouring goes a long way and can give you that awesome look. But some people definitely took it to the extreme.

14. Winged Eyeliner

I have to admit I was once obsessed with this look. Well, maybe not like this one exactly but you know what I mean. Ha, ha.

15. Vajazzling

For the sake of not scarring you for life, I'm not going to show you a picture of this trend. But let's just say I'm glad it's gone.

16. Trashy Makeup

If you were a fan of Kesha or Taylor Momsen back in 2010, we might forgive you for trying to recreate their trashy looks. But, on the other hand, maybe not.

17. Celebrity Fragrances

Around 2010, we seem to have been hit with a slew of celebrity-endorsed fragrances. And to be honest, that got to be a bit much.

18. Heavy Foundation

Gosh, I remember when I used to buy foundation like crazy. Then I would apply it very liberally so that it looked almost caked on. Ugh!

19. Orange Eye Shadow

I dunno who can really pull off this look, unless it's Halloween, of course. I just stick to something that doesn't resemble a pumpkin. Ha, ha.

20. Microblading

So I was actually contemplating getting this done as it saves you so much time from doing your eyebrows.

But now I'm learning it doesn't look good over time.

21. Greige Lips

I can understand going for black lips if you're a goth, but I never got the greige lip color thing. Why was this so popular? Any guesses?

22. Lip Injections

OMG, I'm blessed to have fuller lips so I understand the appeal, but there's a limit. This is a look that I never want to see again.

23. Black Lipstick

Bold lipsticks that came in dark hues were all the rage. Maroon, purple, and even black were some of the popular and trending colors. Personally, I'd prefer it if this look stayed with Halloween.

24. Aquarium Nails

Another excessive nail trend that took off in the 2010s was aquarium nails. These nails were actually filled with water, glitter, beads, and even plastic fish. Yikes!

25. Shaved Hair Tattoos

Shaved hair was popular for men and women. Some took it a step further by even getting a design known as a "hair tattoo." They look cool, but I imagine growing it out would be a pain.

25. Monochromatic Makeup

You'd think that matching all your makeup would be a foolproof look, but that's really not the case. It turns out that certain colors don't work as both an eyeshadow and a lipstick.

26. Unicorn Hair

Rainbow unicorn hair took over Instagram in the 2010s and had everyone booking an appointment with their colorist. A word of caution, this look requires a lot of upkeep and maintenance to stop it from damaging your hair.

As I said, some beauty trends are really awesome and make you look fabulous.

Other looks leave us scratching our heads and ready to move on to the next trends.
