She revealed the unexpected impact her one-year-old son has had on her.

Before having their little one, Eva and her husband, José Baston, met in 2013 after being set up by a mutual friend. The details, however, are foggy.

"I had no memory of meeting him the first time, but we had immediate sparks," Eva recalled.

The couple tied the knot on May 21, 2016, and became an instant family alongside José's three other children from a previous marriage.

In an interview with People, Eva said that she considers José's children her own.

But things changed in 2018, when Eva and José welcomed their first child together, Santiago Enrique Baston.

Eva transitioned from step-mom to mom, and it has had an unforeseen influence on her.

She explained that having a child has changed her perspective on a lot of things.

"Oh my gosh, the one thing I did not expect when Santi was born was the amount of anxiety I was gonna have about the world," she said.

She admitted that world issues suddenly feel more urgent to her.

"Everything affects me now," she continued. "The news and articles and climate change — everything scares me."

"And my anxiety has just gone through the roof," she added.

She mentioned that she feels a sense of responsibility to make the world a better place for the sake of her son's future.

"Going, 'Oh my God, I have to leave the world a better place!'"

"So it's made my philanthropic work more intense. It's brought an insane intensity."

"I'm like, 'We have to save the world! Oh my God!' And I didn't expect that."

Although she has always dabbled in philanthropy, the work has become much more meaningful to her now that she has a child.

"Of course, I do charity work and I do philanthropy," she said. "But now it like just means so much more."

Naturally, she wants to make improvements in the world her son is going to grow up in.

In 2012, Eva launched a foundation that has helped 23,000 Hispanic and Latina girls in the US and Mexico.

The foundation aims to build better futures for Hispanic children and their families through education, scholarships, entrepreneurship, mentorship, parent engagement, microloans and business training.

Rather than letting the anxiety weigh her down, she describes it as more empowering than anything else.

"No, it's fueling," she said. "I know. Sometimes the world's issues are so big, you feel paralyzed.

"And I think that's the misconception, is that you have to be rich and famous to do something," she went on.

"For me, every single person who can do something, you know, it's like you recycling or [me] doing a charity event like this."

"There's many levels of helping and doing," she added.

"And so it's sometimes overwhelming and paralyzing as the thought, but once you start doing, it's easy."
