Emilia Clarke revealed on Dax Shepard's podcast, Armchair Expert, that she was pressured to do nude scenes in an effort to not let Game of Thrones fans down.
It made the show especially awkward to watch with my parents — something I never want to relive.
And if you were a big fan of the show, it might make you uncomfortable to learn that she would be later pressured to film nude scenes as to not let her Game of Thrones fans down.
She began by recalling the overwhelming number of nude scenes she had to do in the first season.
“I took the job and then they sent me the scripts and I was reading them, and I was, like, ‘Oh, there’s the catch!’”
"If it’s in the script then it’s clearly needed, this is what this is and I’m gonna make sense of it… Everything’s gonna be cool."
"But then going in and doing it… I’m floating through this first season and I have no idea what I’m doing, I have no idea what any of this is.
"And I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do".
“Regardless of there being nudity or not, I would have spent that first season thinking I’m not worthy of requiring anything," she went on.
"I’m gonna cry in the bathroom and then I’m gonna come back and we’re gonna do the scene and it’s gonna be completely fine.”
“It was definitely hard,” she said.
"Because he was like, ‘No, sweetie, this isn’t okay.’ And I was like, ‘Ohhhh.'”
"It's only now that I realize how fortunate I was with that, because that could have gone many, many, many different ways."
"He was like, 'Sweetie, this is how it's meant to be and this is how it's not meant to be, and I'm going to make sure that's the way it goes.'"
I don't know about you, but this is exactly how I'd imagine Jason Momoa behaving in real life. What a gentleman!
“I’m a lot more savvy [now] with what I’m comfortable with, and what I am okay with doing,” she said.
"When I did the last nudity that I did for the show, I was like, 'I am owning this. This is mine. They've asked me to do it, and I'm [expletive] game.'"
"I’ve had fights on set before where I’m like, ‘No, the sheet stays up,'" she said.
Good for her for eventually working up the courage to stand her ground!
It is kind of messed up for any actor or actress to be treated that way! Luckily Emilia was able to eventually have the confidence to stand up for herself.
