'Fresh Off The Boat' Cancelled After Season 6

Yes, all you Fresh Off The Boat fans must be pretty unhappy. But know this: there are a lot of shows that don't even make it to six seasons.

Imagine being a Firefly fan! We know what it's like to lose a show that you love.

'Fresh Off The Boat' has been a major show in TV history.

ABC

Not because it had great ratings, not because it made a star out of Randall Park, but because it was the first show (in recent memory, and on American TV) to feature an Asian American family at the helm.

Created by Nahnatchka Khan, it had pretty decent ratings...

Up until recently.

Even after it was moved from a Tuesday spot to a Friday spot, the ratings still didn't pick up. And when that happens, there's only one course of action...

They unfortunately had to cancel it.

After six seasons, lowering ratings, a bunch of changes to the narrative structure, and some controversial comments from star Constance Wu, they finally gave the ax to the groundbreaking show.

President of ABC had this to say:

ABC

"We couldn’t be prouder of this game-changing show and the impact it has had on our cultural landscape. The success of ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ has helped pave the way for inclusion throughout the industry."

'Nahnatchka Khan and her brilliant creative team have created an unforgettable series with an Asian-American family front and center, something that hadn’t been done in two decades. The cast, led by Randall Park and Constance Wu, is one of the finest and funniest on television. We’ll miss the Huang family and are eternally grateful for the incredibly heartfelt stories they have told these past six seasons."

So sad.
