Matt Damon Slams 'A--hole' Jimmy Kimmel in Feud

On March 27, 2023, Matt had an interview with Entertainment Tonight while walking the red carpet at the premiere of his new basketball movie with Ben Affleck, Air. 

During the chat, Matt took the opportunity to reignite his years-long tongue-in-cheek feud after the outlet asked the actor if he would ever mend fences with the Jimmy Kimmel Live host.

In his response, Matt revealed it would never happen, after which he called Jimmy an "a**hole." He further lambasted the TV personality, calling him a terrible human being and a demonstrably bad man.

Then, in a call back to Jimmy's old joke, Matt yelled to Jimmy after spotting him on the red carpet: "Hey! I'd love to take a picture with you, but we ran out of time."

Shortly after Matt's interview, it was Jimmy's turn to talk to the outlet about his feud with the Jason Bourne actor. The TV host began saying, "You know, I don't know who that was, but yeah, I heard him. He was loud."

Then, the interviewer asked Jimmy if he and Matt would ever reconcile on his late-night show, but the comedian was categorical in his response, revealing that it would never happen.

Much like the historic feud between Hollywood icons Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackson, Matt and Jimmy's long-standing dispute is nothing but comedy gold.

The infamous and hilarious feud dates back to the third season of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2006 when the show's host made an off-hand joke about booting Matt at the end of an episode. 

Detailing what happened, Jimmy told NPR that they had a bad show on that day. He said the guests were bad, and he also felt bad about himself at the end of the episode.

So, for the amusement of one of the producers standing next to him, Jimmy said he decided to say, "I want to apologize to Matt Damon. We ran out of time."

Soon, those words became a recurring bit on the show. Jimmy explained to the outlet that Matt's name was the first that popped into his head, and there was no particular reason he chose him.

The 55-year-old also confessed that he was trying to think of an A-list star and somebody they would not bump if he appeared on the show.

Jimmy said he thought people would get bored of him repeating the same joke every night, but it wasn't the case, as they always laughed whenever he said it.

In 2006, Matt was invited to appear on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live to play along with the feud by involving in a stage fight with the television personality.

At the end of the episode, Jimmy tells the usual joke, but Matt, faking anger, responds: "I knew you were going to f***ing do it! Oh, big funny, big f***ing laugh."

In 2008, the bit reached new heights when Jimmy's then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman teamed up with Matt for a raunchy music video titled I'm F***ing Matt Damon.

At some point in the song, Sarah sang, "On the bed, on the floor / On a towel by the door / In the tub, in the car / Up against the mini-bar / I'm f***ing Matt Damon."

Jimmy responded with his own music video targeting Matt's most cherished loved one: Ben Affleck. In the video, the host claimed he was sleeping with Ben.

Throughout the years, Jimmy and Matt have kept up the joke with various insults on talk shows and a series of comedic videos in which the pair go to "couples therapy." With the recent development, the pair look set to take things even further.
