Reese Witherspoon's Troubled Marriage Revealed

Just yesterday, Reese Witherspoon posted on her Instagram a short but very personal message.

"We have some personal news to share... It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," said the joint statement on Instagram.

"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together."

"Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal."

"We truly appreciate everyone's respect for our family's privacy at this time," the statement ends with "Reese and Jim" at the bottom.

Reese has been posting photos with Jim as recently as January 2023, which is why many fans were taken aback by the seemingly sudden split.

"They really are the best of friends and this is such an amicable decision," A source for People magazine said about the issue. "They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone."

However, it seems like someone else they know has a different opinion about the issue. In an exclusive interview with The US Sun, another family friend who's supposedly close to the couple had a lot to say about the matter.

They revealed that the reason for the divorce might actually be Jim, not Reese. "It's Jim who has changed massively in these last few years. He isn't the same guy Reese married and had their son with anymore."

The alleged friend revealed that Jim's drastic career transformation five years ago was a big factor in why his marriage ultimately ended. It's known that Jim was previously a highly esteemed personality in the agency business.

According to the friend, Jim's entire perspective shifted when he left that job and decided that he was done with the rigid corporate world and "the service business in general." His persona, demeanor, and even outlook on life changed substantially. Now, he apparently wants to go down the Silicon Valley investor route.

The source also says, "Call it a midlife crisis if you want, but that's when the tattoos, the chunky, weird jewelry, and dressing like somebody half his age really took hold."

Jim's experience as an executive at Quibi in 2020 intensified his enthusiasm for the tech world, particularly in Silicon Valley.

Although that venture didn't exactly succeed, he did realize it was a great fit for him. He started investing more in Hello Sunshine, the company Reese founded.

In 2021, they sold the business to Candle Media for close to $1 billion. According to the source, this also factored into Reese and Jim's divorce.

"That money was rocket fuel to them, but it sent them in different directions," says the friend.

"Pretty quickly after that deal closed, the only real common ground they had was the raising of their son, Tennessee."

The source says that Jim gave Reese the autonomy to lead and "be the face" of Hello Sunshine. As for him, he was more of a passive figure.

For instance, although Jim did contribute to Hello Sunshine's success, he was never really as involved as Reese. He never accompanied her to any business meetings ever since the company was sold.

Jim has apparently transformed significantly in recent years. Anyone who knows them as a couple can attest to it -- when Jim and Reese appear at private events together, people apparently comment on how different he is now.

"This guy really went from being Gordon Gekko to Mark Zuckerberg, complete with the hoodies and skinny jeans," they say.

Talking more about their current ventures, the friend says, "They've been heading in different directions for a couple of years now, and a divorce simply makes that official."

Despite the divorce, the friend confirms that the two are keen on co-parenting. Reese has handled co-parenting before quite successfully, in fact, and shouldn't have any problem handling that again with Tennessee. 

Reese and Jim, who got married on March 26, 2011, have one son, Tennessee James (10). Reese has two other children from her first marriage with Ryan Phillippe, Ava (23) and Deacon (19).

The friend adds, "Jim will still be in her life. But he's taking the millions he personally made in the Hello Sunshine deal and he's striking out for greener pastures. He's wanted this for a long time."

Reese and Jim have been through a lot together over the past years, but it seems that, in the end, their paths diverged too much for them to remain together.

As they embark on this new chapter of their lives, we do hope that both Reese and Jim can co-parent their son amicably -- it's the least they can do.
