Melissa McCarthy looked so perfectly put together at the Academy Awards on Sunday night that no one would have ever guessed she’d just had a fashion emergency. Keep on reading for more details.

Resplendent In Red

The 52-year-old Nine Perfect Strangers star attended the event in a head-turning scarlet gown by Christian Siriano that featured long blouson sleeves, a high neck, and a voluminous tulle skirt with ruched panels.

Not The Original Dress

However, it wasn’t what she was supposed to wear originally. The first dress, unfortunately, was destroyed when a pipe burst in the designer’s studio just six days before the Academy Awards.

Siriano made an appearance on E!’s Oscars red carpet pre-show and revealed that he’d created the gown McCarthy was wearing just days before the event.

'Freaking Out All Day'

He said the actress’ original dress wasn’t the only one that was ruined in the flooding, and they “were just freaking out all day,” Page Six reported.

Finished In The Nick Of Time

“I took the last dress with me on the plane yesterday … I dropped it off myself,” the Project Runway season four winner added.

'Traumatizing' Experience

Siriano described the whole experience as “traumatizing” and didn’t want to say anything about it at first.

He Didn't Want To Reveal The Dress Was Remade

“I wasn’t gonna say anything about what really happened because I don’t want the actress who’s wearing something to know that her dress was fully remade,” he explained.

The Inspiration Behind The Design

It all ended well, though, and McCarthy got to enjoy her red carpet moment.

As for the inspiration behind the design, he said he wanted something grand because the Thunder Force star had a lot to celebrate that evening.

'A Really Fabulous Fashion Moment'

“It’s a big moment. She’s about to be in such an incredible film for Disney playing Ursula in 'The Little Mermaid,' how fabulous,” he explained. “So I just wanted to give her a really fabulous fashion moment.”

She Presented The Official Trailer Of 'The Little Mermaid'

McCarthy attended the Oscars to present the first official trailer of the Disney live-action movie alongside her costar, Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel.

Two Stylish Ladies

Both actresses looked stylish onstage. Bailey chose a strapless aqua-blue corset gown by Dolce & Gabbana, topped off with a braided updo.

The Pipe Mishap

Siriano, 37, previously shared the flooding mishap on his TikTok page.

The Mess In The Studio

In the video uploaded on March 6, he showed viewers around his damaged studio, with water dripping down from the ceiling.

'Hope These Gowns Are OK'

“When it’s 6 days before the Oscar’s [sic] and it’s raining in my studio because a pipe burst…Hope these gowns are ok! Wow… happy Monday to us,” the voiceover said.

Impressive Speed And Talent

The gowns turned out to not be okay, but thanks to the Maryland-born designer’s speed and talent, his fabulous garments still made it to the ball.

He Also Dressed Alicia Silverstone

Aside from McCarthy, Siriano also dressed Alicia Silverstone that night for the Vanity Fair Oscar party. She looked dazzling in her asymmetrical green sequin gown with a thigh-high slit.

Lilly Singh

The Siriano squad at the Oscars also included YouTuber Lilly Singh, who opted for a fuchsia ensemble consisting of a floor-length coat and wide-leg pants.

Shohreh Aghdashloo

For Shohreh Aghdashloo, he created a black-and-white ballgown with a powerful statement about the women of Iran.
