The 21-year-old is a mattress salesman from Santa Fe, Texas. He revealed he was inspired to audition after narrowly escaping a school shooting in May 2018.
His emotional story and superb performance of Stone by Whiskey Myers earned him a standing ovation from Perry and the other judges seated at the table.

"Our country has f***ing failed us. This is not OK."
The singer stressed the need for change.
“You should be singing here because you love music, not because you had to go through that f – – king bulls – – t, You don’t have to lose eight friends. I hope that you remind people that we have to change. ’Cuz, you know, I’m scared, too.”
After Louis's performance, he was given three unanimous yeses for moving to the next round and got hugs from the superstar judges.
She seems to have lots of fun on the American Idol set as she gives Lionel Richie a mullet makeover following her wardrobe malfunction caused by auditioner Madison's guitar.
She laid a part of her stray hair on Richie's head amid serious laughter and said.
"You have been given the crown."
The superstar joins Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for season 21 of American Idol, where they train, coach, and encourage talents for stardom.
The singer is also killing it regarding her sweet romance with Orlando Bloom. They got engaged in 2019 and welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove Bloom in 2020.
The couple first met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016 and even fought over a burger.
