The Margeras

Court documents obtained by People say that Bam and Nikki have been separated since September 14, 2021. Nikki filed for divorce on Tuesday, requesting to have legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old son, Phoenix, and spousal support.

There Was An Incident

Reports say a specific incident triggered the filing and it was a non-sober visit with their son. Nikki, who was also present at the time, believes Bam was under the influence and acting inappropriately, although he claims that he is sober.

A Tough Decision

Nikki's attorney, David Glass, says it was a tough decision but Nikki has done everything she can to help Bam get sober and keep their family together.

Nikki's Statement

"Nikki Margera felt compelled to file for legal separation from her husband, Bam Margera, due to his continuing drug and alcohol abuse, erratic behavior, and due to his failure to provide support for her and their son," Glass tells People.

His Battle With Sobriety

It's no secret that Bam has been battling sobriety for many years. The 43--year-old former pro skater has been in and out of rehab to treat his alcohol and drug addiction.

1 Year Of Treatment

In May 2022, Bam shared on Instagram that he was celebrating one year of being in treatment. Not long after that, he made headlines for fleeing his in-patient program in Florida.

Supportive Wife

After his disappearance from the treatment facility, Nikki shared a statement of support via Us Weekly. “Addiction treatment is often a bumpy road. Nikki Margera and their son Phoenix hope he will turn up quickly and re-dedicate himself to sober living — for himself and for his family.”

Steve-O Extends His Support

Aside from his wife, pal Steve-O has been a constant source of support for Margera. He has previously said that he has nothing but love for Bam and will "never give up on him".

Falling Out

However, Steve-O - who has been sober for 15 years - may have reached his limit as well, as the TV personality aired his frustration after bringing his friend on tour and witnessing his relapse.

He detailed his feelings in a since-deleted Instagram post, which ended with "You're dying, brother, and it sucks that I can't do anything to save you."

Jackass Firing

Bam's relationship with his friends has been on rocky grounds because of his erratic behavior. His firing from the latest Jackass movie revealed that the crew and co-stars were not happy with Margera's addiction and mental health troubles.

Feeling Abandoned

The public spat led to a series of outbursts from Margera. He verbally attacked director Jeff Tremaine and Johnny Knoxville, claiming that his friends betrayed and abandoned him. “My ‘family’—Jackass—has betrayed me, rejected me, abandoned me,” he ranted on Instagram.

He Broke His Contract

According to the Jackass camp, Margera was cut off because he broke his contract, which stated that he had to get sober, take his medications, and see a psychologist.

They Tortured Me

Margera says having all the requirements was "pure torture" for him and caused him to feel depressed and have suicidal ideations.

Ryan Dunn Tribute

“It’s supposed to be a f*cking reunion, getting the band back together, to pay our respects to Ryan Dunn. He’s rolling around in his f*cking grave saying, ‘Why Jeff, why?’” Margera said.

A Heartbreaking Tragedy

Many believe Bam's downward spiral worsened after the death of his best friend, Ryan Dunn, who died in a car crash while intoxicated.

Priscilla Presley

To add to his long list of issues, Margera also recently found himself in a dispute with Priscilla Presley. The actress called Bam a "dishonest and unstable" individual, after he claimed that Presley gave him precious Elvis memorabilia.

Sorry And Embarrassed

Bam later apologized in an Instagram post, saying he is very sorry and embarrassed for acting like a jackass.

No Statement Yet

As of the moment, Bam hasn't made a statement about his estranged wife's divorce filing. The two have been married for nine years before separating in 2021. While Nikki is asking for full custody of their son, she is reportedly allowing Bam supervised visits.
