On Thursday, Neill, 75, sent a warning to his 530,000 Instagram followers via his assistant, alerting them to a series of frauds aiming to take cryptocurrencies or cash from his admirers in exchange for roles in Jurassic Park, romance, or diamond rings.
On Thursday, the 75-year-old star warned his Instagram followers about fraud involving his famous name and image. Lauren, Sam's assistant, wrote the caption on his behalf, claiming that scammers had been impersonating Sam and contacting followers via social media.
His aide also included in the lengthy caption she rolled out a screenshot of numerous accounts imitating the actor. She stated that Sam would never ask anyone for bitcoin, money to bail out of a foreign jail, or a Western Union transfer to attend a private event with him via social media.
"Definitely a scammer.!!He won’t be trying to send you a diamond ring from Sri Lanka (that you then need to pay customs fees for) ‼️That scammer is at it again.‼️"
She continued;
"Sam does not have a private account hidden from his social media team to speak directly to his followers!!"
"Scammer at work here‼️"
Other phony accounts using the Thor actor's identity have been linked to get-rich-quick crypto-currency schemes.
Surprisingly, scammers have attempted to persuade fans that Sam is looking for a love interest.
However, his aide did not hesitate to warn Sam that he would never seek a love relationship online because the scammers would crush their hearts.
Although, some of Sam Neill's fans didn't take the warning seriously as they made a mockery of the warning in the comments;
"Who the hell have I been sending all those nudes to?' responded one male fan."
"Wait, you mean the message he sent me asking me to send him bitcoin to be in a Jurassic Park movie wasn't real?' said another, before adding: 'Well, this is awkward!"
Other fans of the actor were grateful for the heads up, as one follower wrote;
"Please continue to report the fake accounts that contact you, It helps a lot and will continue to make Instagram a safer place for everyone."
Sam Neill has no time for jokes as he focuses on his career. Deadline recently revealed the first images from his latest project, "Bring Him To Me," which also features other Hollywood finest stars like Barry Pepper & Rachel Griffiths.
The film's plot was inspired by Martin Scorsese's Casino's harrowing moment in which Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) accidentally shows up for a meeting in a cornfield, and things go wrong.
