Fans are shocked that Ashton Kutcher, who played a stoner in the movie Dude, Where's My Car is no longer a weed enthusiast. The 44-year-old admitted she swore off smoking or ingesting marijuana several years ago, and here's the reason.

A Bad Trip

Speaking to Esquire, Kutcher said all it took was a bad trip to change his mind on weed. The actor admitted to consuming a THC edible in Italy during a destination wedding ten years ago. It didn't help that he took the drug post-vasectomy surgery when his internal system was still adapting to change.

He Thought He Was Broke

Kutcher's bad trip had him calculating math wrongly and psyching out over going fake broke. His actions shocked his wife, Mila Kunis, as he told her they were too broke to stay in their fancy hotel.

Making The Resolution

Once he recovered the next morning and discovered his error, Kutcher promised himself and Kunis that it'd be the last time. Coincidentally, the State of California, where they lived, legalized marijuana use that same year. The irony.

Fans weren't sure about his retirement because there was no official statement, but the 44-year-old confirmed he did that intentionally. His return made even more noise than it'd have if he had mentioned the hiatus nine years ago. Think of it like Rihanna's music hiatus after her last album in 2016.

Now easing back into the spotlight after his nine-year hiatus from feature films, Kutcher stars in a rom-com opposite Reese Witherspoon. Your Place or Mine is a Netflix romantic comedy hitting the streamer on Feb. 10.

Playing Fun Characters

The actor carefully selected that movie for his comeback role because he no longer relies on his acting salaries. Instead, Kutcher makes money off investing. He told Esquire that he wants to play fun characters and give joy through his stories.

Kutcher also opened up about marrying his longtime friend Kunis. The couple first met on the set of That '70s Show when the actress was 14 and he 20.

Although they started their romantic lives with other people (Kunis dated Macaulay Culkin, and Kutcher was married to Demi Moore), they found their ways to each other.

Kunis and Kutcher reconnected in 2012, married in 2015, and have two children. The actor said he enjoys fathering his two children, Dimitri and Wyatt. They rarely work together on-screen but linked up for the reboot of their classic show, That 90s Show, in a cameo.

Life Lately

Kutcher and Kunis spent most of their time being philanthropists and businesspeople after marriage. However, they returned to the screen last year.
