Fashion icon Tatjana Patitz passed away after battling an illness at the age of 56. She was one of the original supermodels in the 1990s. Fellow supermodels and people from the fashion world were quick to pay their tributes to the icon.

Supermodel Patitz recently passed away after battling breast cancer. The news was confirmed by her agent to Daily Mail. The fashion world lost the fashion icon in Santa Barbara, California on January 11th, 2023.

She Made History Alongside Other Pioneer Models

The Hamburg-born model appeared alongside fellow original supermodels including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington. In 1990, they featured on the cover of British Vogue for their January issue. The cover became one of the most iconic fashion images.

It also made it on Edward Enninful's top ten British Vogue covers. That same month, Patitz made the cover of US Vogue solely on her own.

A lot of tributes went out immediately after the death of the fashion icon was announced. Model Elaine Irwin shared a picture of a joint Paris Vogue cover with Patitz. She wrote, "Forever treasured Tatjana." Yasmeen Ghauri also posted a picture of her with Patitz, Karen Alexander, and Campbell. Ghauri explained they did not know each other but Patitz's kindness, inner strength, and grace also shone.

More Tributes Poured In

Tribute was also paid to the supermodel by Herb Ritts Foundation. They also paid tribute to Ritts who died in 2002 and photographed Patitz a lot. In their farewell message to the model, they expressed their sadness over the news and sent condolences to her son, Jonah.

The model had quite a legendary run in the world of fashion and showbiz as a whole. Patitz proved to be one of a kind when she starred in George Michael's music video Freedom! from 1990. She starred in the video with fellow original supermodels on the British Vogue cover.

Fellow original models from the 1990s did not hesitate to send out hearty tributes to the icon. Crawford shared a flashback picture of Patitz on Insta Stories adding two broken heart emojis. On her Instagram page, the mother-of-two posted a throwback picture of them on the beach.

Anna Wintour also sent tributes to the supermodel. She is the chief content officer of Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue. Wintour said Patitz was the "European symbol of chic," and was more mysterious.
