Sad news for fans of Modest Mouse musical band and music lovers at large, as drummer and co-founder Jeremiah Green surrendered to his brief battle with cancer on Saturday at 45.

Green co-founded the rock band with Isaac Brock, the lead singer and guitarist, and Eric Judy, the bassist, in 1992.

The Late Jeremiah Green

The talented drummer and band founder died in his sleep on Saturday, and in a statement released by the band, the 45-year-old died in a very calm manner- in his sleep.

“I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend, Jeremiah,” according to their Instagram post. “He laid down to rest and simply faded out.”

The Grief Continues

The sad statement encouraged fans to appreciate the love Green spread worldwide and described the drummer as "Love."

"I'd like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn't the time. These will come later, and from many people. Please appreciate the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you."

Green's Diagnosis

The drummer and co-founder was just recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, according to information from his mother, on the 25th of December. She requested prayers from followers following the reveal.

“Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He’s is [sic] so strong and so brave and hanging in there!”.

Marco Collins Also Shared The News

Apart from Namatame, a Seattle-based radio DJ, also shared the devastating news of his diagnosis, adding that while it's a Stage 4 cancer, his prognosis is good and sends him healing energy.

"Just found out my friend Jeremiah Green (Modest Mouse) has pulled off the band's tour because he is currently undergoing chemo treatments to battle Stage 4 Cancer."

His Mom Announced His Passing On Facebook

As she did for his diagnosis, Green's mom announced his death on Facebook in an emotional statement.

“It is with a very heavy heart that the Green and Namatame families announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother, Jeremiah Green.

The Family Is Requesting For Privacy

His mother described him as a light to many. She requested that the family be given privacy while promising to release information concerning his funeral, including a Celebration of Life for friends and fans in months to come.

Condolences From The Music Community

Tributes have been trickling following the news of Green's death, mostly from his former bandmates.

"The great Jeremiah Green. My friend, bandmate, and the most creative musician I ever met," wrote Johnny Marr, a former Modest Mouse guitarist.

“JG. I love you. Always. Forever.” commented Jim Fairchild on the band's Instagram post.

The band kicked off their latest tour on November 18 in honor of The Lonesome Crowded West album and ended it on December 17. They were also set to launch another tour in 2023 for the new album The Golden Casket.
